Referendum only way consent for sewers can be ascertained Mayor Ed Macgregor questions WRATH’s support base and believes the consent issue has been addressed (Sooke News Mirror, April 25). A referendum is the only way consent for a sewage system can be truly ascertained. The proposed outfall has an impact environmentally and financially on all the residents of Sooke, not just the downtown core. Eventually all residents of Sooke will be forced to hook up to the sewage system. There is no mention of how high their taxes will be or the incurring costs. For those of us who have attended sewage and council meetings it is evident that the only input welcomed is the one that supports the council initiative. Opposing viewpoints are met with terse responses and downright rudeness. I, for one, am pleased there is a group that will intervene until council is accountable to all the residents of Sooke, not just a chosen few. |
