Public must attend crucial sewer meeting
By Gail Hall, Sooke News Mirror, June 20, 2001

Once in awhile there is a meeting at which public attendance should be mandatory.

June 26 will be one such meeting date. The Sewerage Committee will host a public forum to discuss financing of their proposal. That will be the night, when as property owners, you will finally know how much the sewers will cost each of you.

Listings of each property will be available. Three possible taxation options will be explained, and you will be offered the opportunity for input into which would be more acceptable.

While it might be a bit like choosing which finger you would rather have cut off, this will likely be the only chance you will have to speak on the issue.

Come to the meeting. Find out if your taxes will buy a noisy, smelly, high-maintenance lift station next door, like the ones scheduled for the foot of Dover Street, the east end of Horne Road, or next to the municipal hall.

Whether you favour the sewers or not, this is the meeting you must attend. You might be surprised at what you don’t know.

Remember June 26, 4-9 p.m., with the formal discussion starting at 7 p.m. Is your property within the specified area? Phone municipal engineer Gary Smirfitt to find out, 642-1634.
