GIRL IN THE GLASS BUBBLE

…WITH JUST A FEW CRACKS

so as not to upset the

delicate balance of nature

between she

hippie environmentalist

and me

joe consume everything in sight

though avid recycler and

conscientious employee of

federal department of environment

as she subtly preaches by munching tofu

the virtues of organic farming

those edibles raised

without pesticides or factory fertilizer

I remain silent

despite having seen the statistics of

100+ years pollution

knowing that poison's everywhere

in the air we breath

water we drink

food we eat

organic or not

I haven't the heart to burst her bubble

though it already was

before she was born
