Freeing Anglewing Butterflies

To see the period before the end of that last sentence

and to know it isn't where you want to be

that final wake after the dream

where I hear my youngest crying

"sleeping IS better than dying"

if only his tears could cease the seeping setting sun

but I see that you are tired of fighting

undone wars

and as Death sieves your span between its hands

we perceive your fore roaring

of Twinjet skies

freeing

Anglewing butterflies

Author's Note: Lloyd K. Carmichael loving Husband, Father and Grandfather, died at age 51, 3/30/2006 after a four month battle
with kidney cancer. (Anglewing Butterfly is a Comma Butterfly, with a comma-shaped mark on the underside of each wing)

But where are the heroes?

We raise our grace cups

to accolade

facades

Matinee idols raved brave

as brazen-faced

taste-makers

but where are the heroes

aligned

for you and me

and where are the heroes

combined

for he and she?

as we bow our heads

in reverence

the gilded pyrite

while stone-blinding

our eyes

the righteous

but what can be rectified

when wrong

seems right?

and what would be idolized

comprised fighters

you and I

should we be heroes

refined

for he and she

or should we be fearful

sand-blind

and supine?

Jigsaw Land

He swayed beneath an array of stars

dismayed saying,

"Make it easy! Make it easy!"

his heart a constellation of speckled art

and I, lost within his blazing maze

reached out for his hand

because he couldn't greet mine

and together,

we zigzagged the jagged hazards

to his quasar

in Jigsaw Land

and topsy-turvy our words merged

at first

bit by fit and fit by bit

and as I empathized within his disguise

he realized mine

and there we swayed

just he and I

inside our heart's array

of measured stars
