WAVES

with a slap on the rear

we’re thrown head first into life

   no choice in the matter

at an early age must learn to swim

   a few never catch on

   most though quickly grow accustomed

to the varying warmth and cold

   each developing a unique method

of keeping head above the waves

not always easy - life comes with many storms

   - for some - constant -

waterlogged - no helping hand to pull them through

they give up - sinking into the blackness below

for those of us able to weather the elements

when life is good - we skip across the surface

seeming able to walk on water

most prefer to keep the waves to a minimum

    others unafraid to make them

some choose a low profile technique

    invisible just below the surface

    only coming up for air

but whatever we do in the pool of life

    - good or bad - comes back

reflected off those bobbing around us
