All the philosophers studied Homer and Hesiod. They are the bases for the Greek "modern" philosophy.
The philosophy is the result of the knowledge of the Natural and Social Sciences, as well as Theology, them being Philosophy's necessary ingredients. We find that all important philosophers dealt with Natural sciences, including Astronomy, Mathematics, Engineering, Biology, Medicine, etc. In addition, all have gone deep in the social sciences, they describe existing and "perfect" societies and the real and necessary issues and assumptions, psychology of persons and mases, political systems, interrelations between economics and social construction and results, an so on. All the philosophers, after geting in details on the existing natural, human and social worlds, dealt with Theology, Spiritual world and the human soul.
In Iliad and Odyssey, as well as in Hesiod's works, we find all those ingredients. That is why, I take the liberty and I call them PHILOSOPHERS! |
