Through all of the droning chatter suddenly a shot screamed trough the crowd of people. Automatic, small, not a riffle, good. The only thoughts that could pass through her mind at the moment did, as she stiffened and desperately searched through the crowd. The gun went off a second time, the crowd stilled. For a moment, one moment in stilled time, the entire plaza was dead silent, nothing moved, the wind didn't blow, the only thing Kay Mason was aware of was the knot in her stomach cramping up and the clamping of her lungs tightly in her chest for a split second. Then, her training took over.
About 100 meters into the depths of the throng of people a commotion stirred, then exploded. Shouting, snaps, yells, and a source-less cracking rose above the riot. Kay resisted the urge to spin around and retreat as she heard her fate and duty sealed as the doors to the building closed with a loud thump behind her. The fighting spread from the centre like a plague, more like a wild fire in this heat.
Kay spotted two of the agents in her team pushing their way through the violent people. "What in the hell are you two doing?" "There's a man down here, he's been shot two times, call for an ambulance." Kay eyed Seth and he pulled out the radio from one of the side pockets in his vest. He held up his hand, his fingers spread. "Five minutes you two. Everyone else, group together and push into the crowd, prepare to receive the ambulance, exercise extreme caution."
The team kept close, Kay issuing instruction through the chaos. "I've called for back-up, I'll take too much time, no one was actually prepared for this. Mark, Jack, you two will act as our guiding arrows, get us to the man, and you'll be at the front of the med-van when it comes time to lead out. Agent Sinders, you and Agent Garrison will stay in the back section of the ambulance, the rest of us will man the sides of the van.
Over the heads of the people Agent Garrison saw the approach of the ambulance, and before he had time to tell his comrades, it was close enough to them to recognize it was the place to stop. Kay approached the drivers side. "Those two in front will lead you to the man who needs help, the rest of us will be safeguarding you at the sides and back of the van, travel no faster than walking speed, we'll keep the people clear." A full soda can hit the ambulance and burst  to punctuate the end of Kay's sentence, nearly missing her head. I wont take that one personally. She ducked lower and inched along with the snailing ambulance.
Kay kneeled down beside the man and checked for a pulse as the paramedics came to his side with a stretcher. He looked at her with angry, hate filled eyes before his eyes closed and he lost consciousness. The paramedics hurriedly strapped him to the stretcher and hauled him into the back of their vehicle.
