This is the start of a new work log. This will document the proress on my TI-83 Plus Silver Edition mod.

The pictures of the begining will be up soon but for now I will just describe the plan.

The overall goal of this project is to add case lights (led's) to my 83 pse. I am planning to go with 6 high output blue led's aranged around the case (two on the top, two on each side, and two on the bottom) with a switch to the left of the backup battery cover to switch from off to dim to full brightness. This mod is in the alpha stages and nothing has yet been purchased so this may not be finsihed but whatever the outcome it will be at least a cool concept.

WARANTY VOIDED!!!
The case is open (picture to follow) and there is even more space in this than I originally thought. I have changed from blue to red/green so there will only be one brightness (because of limitations presented from 3 position switch - no room for a bigger one. In the end I might decide to just go with green and do a dual brightness and one day put a color selector switch in line to go bi-color. Mabey even on v1, Don't know yet. Lucily though the 4 AAA batteries should be more than enough to handle the dual load. This remains to be seen though due to complexity of powering up with case open as a result of battery connections. Also I still need to spend some time calculating the resistance value for the 6 led's hooked together. (Red needs 70 ohms to knock down to 2.5 volts for one - Green is 79 ohms) so far no major snaffus yet, knock on wood.

Here are two picture of the calc opened up. Unfortunatley, even though we have figured out how to hook up the LED's, and planned/notched for the wireing I do not believe that this mod will take place. Although I had strong plans to continue and finish this mod some other people have decided that this is an unwise idea, and I can agree with their logic. Therefore, I will be suspending this mod indefinatley. Later on I will put up wireing diagrams and the like for the project if anyone else would like to attempt this so that it will be as easy for them as possible. 'Till the next mod - light

I eat my words again! I have very quickly resumed work on this mod. As of now (5:25 PM) I have both of the LED series pairs soldered together (because of space I have eliminated one of the pairs for now) and have layed out/soldered the battery wires for one pair. Things left to do are: mount the LED's in the case, install the switch, case mods to fit the switch. Estimated time of completion: between end of today and end of Thursday.
