Failing
He watched, mesmerised, as the little girl swung the bat'leth with
precision and grace, in a furious series of killing strokes that
always stopped short of the practice dummy. Then, reluctantly, he
clapped. "Well done, B'Elanna. Daddy's very proud of you."
After she had skipped away to bed, Miral stood up. "It is time."
The blow that felled him was entirely without passion, as was all
their life by now.
He went to B'Elanna's room and watched her sleeping one last time.
Then he left the house, and there was only solitude, and the rain,
and the memory of failure.
