The Examination for Lieutenant: Year 1 (extra scene from "Emanations")



As Hatil wrapped him in the shroud, Harry allowed his curiosity full 
rein.

"Tell me about the next emanation. What do your people believe it's 
like?"

Hatil paused for a moment, thinking. "It's where we become all we ever 
had the potential to be. We're at peace, at last; every ambition is 
fulfilled."

And the shroud was closed, and Hatil was gone, and there was the 
sensation of movement, then pain, and...

...and waking to see the Doctor bending over him, saying, "Welcome 
back, Ensign Kim."

"Ensign?" Harry's face fell. "I guess I didn't make it to the next 
emanation."
