London 1999 Diary

Monday, Dec. 13, 1999, 5:30 PM

Well, I'm back at the hotel. After I wrote last, I wound up falling asleep until around one o'clock. Then dad and I decided to go to downtown Maidenhead in an attempt to find the train station (so I can take the train to London tomorrow).

As we walked along the Thames, we saw so many ducks! I love the way they land on the water. It was very nice out, though it rained when I was sleeping. Dad insists we take lots of pictures, but I would just as soon write in this journal. I'm not very photogenic, and I think I can capture most things in words as well as a photo if I put my mind to it. Besides, for most of the major attractions, there are tons of photos anyway, and much better done than anything I could do.

Anyway, we found the station, and it's about 9 pounds to get a return ticket to London plus have use of the "tubes".

I've been trying to plan out what I'm going to do tomorrow and Wednesday, when I'll be alone. I'm going to go into London both days, probably. Tomorrow I want to do a "hop on/off" bus tour. It's somewhat expensive (10-15 pounds), but if that's my only main expense for the day I should be all right. Wednesday, I think I'm going to check out the British Museum, and sightsee some more if I have time.

Something I've noticed: food here is very expensive. Tea, coffee, and a scone cost 3.15 pounds (about $8). I hope I have enough money to last me for the week.

Well, not very much else to say right now. I'll write again later.
