Hans Merz was born 18th of March 1930 in Beinstein as the second child of the farmer Ernst Gottlob Merz and his wife Sofie. Tragically Hans lost his own father when he was only five years old. He then grew up working the farm together with his two brothers and his mother during and after the years and hardships of the Second World War.

Hans had to die on the 9th of July 2004 after a long, painful suffering from pancreas cancer.
He only got 74 years old. His early death is a tragedy for his wife, his son and his grandson.

Only after she lost him, his wife realized how much love and care he gave her all of his life. His aims and his sometimes only thinking was a constant yearning for peace, harmony and happiness. So he put himself often last and always gave in when having arguments with mean or dominant people, and with my mother.

With the early death of Hans, his son lost the best friend he ever had. Of course there have been different points of view sometimes - but there always was a speedy reconciliation.
His grandson was only 8 years old when Hans died. So Daniel did not have the luck to enjoy his always caring and loving grandfather.
