Need to Change

Why does everything have to change?
the people we knew are now so lost and lonely
stepping out like a ghost into the morning mist
and I watch as their tears fall like the rain
as they walk past their former selves
and then back again...
And around here I can hear the distant cries
of a mother as she lies next to her baby that was once alive
around here no one ever stands up straight
not one head is upraised towards the sky...
around here these silent rooms tell the stories
of empty beds and sleepless nights
I walk these empty streets again
looking at empty houses standing solemn in the dark...
around here I can feel the empty arms, the misplaced glances
and the longing for someone not from here...
Mama, why won't you let me in?
open the door, now let me inside
you know I can't go home anymore...
I have lost my way back
I cannot stand this empty silence anymore
as I stand here I hear voices inside...
If someone is with you why won't you
open up and let me inside?
Around here why won't someone try to change?
break this silence
fill the void in my mind
around here...
