3. John 3rd³ Witherspoon (John 2nd², John¹) was born in Scotland January 10, 1725/6. John died November 7, 1778 in Wilkes Co, NC, at 52 years of age. His body was interred in NC.

He married Martha Pettigrew in Pa., 1747. Martha was born in County Tyrone, Ire circa 1734. She was the daughter of James 3rd Pettigrew and Mary Cochran. Martha died April 10, 1810 in Wilkes Co, NC. Her body was interred in NC.

John 3rd Witherspoon and Martha Pettigrew had the following child:

4 i. Mary⁴ Witherspoon was born in NC circa 1764. Mary died 1856 in Franklin Co, GA. Her body was interred in Beaverdam Bapt, Ch Cem, Fair Play, SC. She married Thomas Wiley Harbin in Fairplay, Oconee Co, SC, circa 1806. Thomas was born in SC circa 1760. He was the son of John Harbin and Elizabeth ......?. Thomas died 1808 in Fairplay, SC. His body was interred in Beaverdam Bapt, Ch, Fairplay, SC. (See Thomas Wiley Harbin for the continuation of this line.)
