This is a fine example of a Kris
blade. It's double edged serpentine blade is razor sharp, a venerable thrusting
and slashing weapon.
This is a unique weapon devised
by the Moro Warriors of Mindanao. It is called a Barong. The leaf-shaped
blade makes for an excellent slashing weapon that has just the right amount
of weight to the blade to allow quick attacks.
Pacific Cutlery was
the first Philippine based company to mass produce the famous Balisong, or
as it is more commonly known as, the Butterfly knife. Prior to Pacific
Cutlery, the Batangas province in the Philippines was the only place to get
a quality Balisong, which would have been handmade. This is one of the
greatest contributions to the martial world that the Philippines had to offer.
Almost everyone who dabbles in any kind of martial arts will find themselves
at least one time in their life trying to swing open a Balisong and
find their hand or finger bleeding. It is a knife simple in design, yet exciting
to master and even after years of finding new ways to open and close them, still
demands respect and interest. Pacific Cutlery was eventually purchased by the
American based company Benchmade, but
still makes some of the finest Balisongs on the market today.
This is the most common
blade you will find in the Philippines next to the Balisong. It is the
Bolo. In the provinces, these are almost as common as the everyday kitchen
sink. They can be found in virtually every household and are used for any number
of things.
