News and events:

New main home page as of March 2001 This (Geocities) site mainly contains some older material having to do with our stay in Florida. For this reason, the pages will not need frequent updating. Many pages will exist in duplicate on both this server and the new one, but the newest versions will always be found on the Update server. My "official" front page, until recently residing at a Swipnet/Tele2 server, has moved to http://www.update.uu.se/~jolkkonen/index.html. Set your bookmarks to this URL right now! The reason for the change is that Tele2 turned greedy and would not allow anyone to log in unless he was on a Tele2 phoneline to the Tele2 modem pool. The annual fee for Internet services (modem pool, web space, mail server, news server) was not enough for them any longer, to actually use the services that you had paid for, you would have to sign a compulsory "agreement" that gives Tele2 a monopoly on your phone connection to the modem pool. So forget all my old e-mail addresses and URLs containing "swipnet"! Erase them from your address books. All our American E-mail and snailmail addresses are also permanently cancelled. Friends are welcome to visit us in Uppsala, but should note that Pille and I have moved to a new apartment as of May 2000. • Register your E-mail address in at least one of the several existing directories, to facilitate for old friends to find you! Choose among these:

  

• Get a minimum of competence to receive files attached to E-mail messages! Even if you should happen to sit behind a PC, why be more lame than necessary? Proceed at once to the excellent site Coding and decoding. There you will find all you need, information and programs for download, for Mac, PC and UNIX. Get support for BinHex, UUcode och Base64, and be like a normal person. Then return here and continue reading.
  
• Send all your rare and unusual Blondie recordings to me! God or someone else in charge will no doubt reward you in the hereafter.
  
• Remember that there is a special, unpleasant place prepared for those who separate the manual, technical specifications or installation disks from the machine!
  
• A suggestion to the many criminals in Miami: Why not pay a visit to South Miami and steal some alarm-equipped cars from there? The alarms go off anyway every hour, day or night, so nobody will pay any attention whatsoever while you're working. Then you can sell the cars somewhere far away up North. And those who live in South Miami might get some sleep at night, as we didn't.
  
• When computers grow old, they deserve a place where they can age with dignity. Try to provide them with this whenever possible.
  
• If we know each other, send me an electronic letter! Just put it in the mailbox above. I appreciate hearing from old friends, comrades and acquaintances, even if we've been out of touch for a long time. Unfortunately, when I want to send a greeting to an old friend, I often don't have the current address. Now you don't have the same excuse!
