Kelvin's Life Story

I was born in St. Thomas Ontario on December 19, 1969. I am the youngest of 3, I have an older brother and sister. I don't remember much of growing up, I was your typical geek with bad teeth and dark glasses held together with tape. My folks always did the best they could with what they had, but we were by no means rich.

There is only a few things that I can still remember of my early childhood. I remember camping in the summer at Long Point, I remember how my middle finger got split open(has something to do with my older brother...you figure it out), and my dad trying to surpise me with a set of drums they bought for me. Would have worked too except he dropped one of the cymbals on the asphalt driveway and woke up the neighborhood. The one thing I will always remember is August 1980. Tuesday August 11, 1980 at 8:07pm to be exact. I was in the basement watching "That's Incredible" on TV. That was the exact time two of my aunts came up to me at home and said my Dad had just died from Leukemia. As I get older, I guess I am having trouble remembering alot about my Dad. I know I look alot like him. I have my Dad's eyes...and unfortunately I have the family nose and hairline too.

I do sit and wonder every now and then just what life would be like if he never died. I don't know that I would be where I am today....

The Last 15 years...

My Mom remarried in 1983. I think it was the best thing for her really. I can't imagine what her life would be like now without him. Anyway, 1983 was also the year I started high school. Not much to say really, I was a success both in my studies and in my school activites. I finished high school in 1988 with honors and started at the University of Waterloo's Faculty of Mathematics in the fall of 1988. Doesn't seem like it was 10 years ago.....

Anyway, I didn't have many friends in University. There was only a couple from my hometown and I never really did see much of them on campus. I guess I had the typical university experience. It was the first time away from home. I attended a few parties, got smashed my first time. Threw up the next morning....swore that I was never going to do that again. This is one promise I have kept. To this day, I think I can count on two hands the number of drinks I have had in any given year.

I started working in the glass industry after I graduated. Let's just say from January 1994 to January 1997 is a time that I don't want to remember. I had a job I hated. I went through some rough times...thanks to someone that I thought was a friend. This isn't the place for those details but let's say I went through a hell that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.

The only HIGHLIGHT of 1994 to 1996 was a new hobby I took up....line dancing. It seemed to be something I needed. It took my mind off my troubles. In the spring of 1996 I was asked to join the "Out of Line Dance Team" in London. I made a lot of friends that I still have to this day. It has also allowed me to do alot of different things in the line dance community. I really think that if I hadn't gotten into line dancing, I probably would have gone nuts. I want to take this space to thank a whole bunch of people for helping me in my life and getting me where I am today:

I danced with the Out of Liner's until June of 1997. I now dance here in Michigan where I live...so just how did I get here then?

Well, in the spring of 1997 I decided it was time to make a new start and find a "real" job. I had enough of the old job and I was ready to move on. I needed a new start. After some unsuccessful job interviews, I ended up with a job offer with an engineering consulting firm in Livonia, Michigan. I began working on a project for one of the Big 3 Auto Manufacturers...although I guess by looking at the back ground, you have figured out which one by now. Anyway, I just needed to get away so I accepted the offer and in about 1 week I had arranged to stay in Windsor until I could find a place of my own, I gave my old job 24 hours notice that I was leaving and I moved my life here.

Well, in December 1999, I was officially hired on as a Ford Employee working in Visteon. It's made up of all Ford Automotive Component Manufacturers.

I know it sounds rather boring...well, it is. There's no fancy stories to tell, I didn't save any lives or perform miracles. I am just someone trying to live the kind of life I had hoped for years ago. I knew along time ago that I didn't want to spend the rest of my life in St. Thomas.
