I don't think either of us would have guessed that we would end up the closest of friends. But isn't that they way of friendship? I have learnt a lot from him, mostly about me. Truly a Guide, Philosopher and Friend.
| We spent many hours together in the lobby of the Hong Kong
Sheraton, (when it still had a lobby bar), not a few at Chater Lounge in
the Ritz, and also at the lobby of the Peninsula. Actually, so many
had been the hours at the Peninsular in Hong Kong, that there was once I
walked in for what I had planned to be a quiet drink, and was informed "Sir,
your friend is over there." And was led to the table where Colin was also
planning to spend a quiet evening! We also spent many miles together - we have travelled to KL, Penang, Bangkok, Manila, Shanghai, Nanjing, Milwaukee, London, St Petersburg, Moscow, Beijing... and we haven't fallen out yet! Together, we the partners in crimes/brothers in arms and what have you, have eaten at the most expensive restaurants, savoured expensive wines, stayed at famous hotels.... But hey - it wasn't all expensive stuff ; there were the many evenings of char siu fahn, of joke and other delights available in Hong Kong for USD3.00! What I can honestly say is this: I would not have done as much as I did during my Hong Kong years were it not far Cols! In our cabin on the Trans-Siberian Raliway => |

He's now in medical school training to be a doctor. Another doctor! Oh how many doctors are there to be in my life!! The great thing is that despite the both of us having left Hong Kong, we have managed to keep in touch. Sometimes it's by phone, sometimes by e-mail, and also, by visits. He's been to Geneva when I was there, and I've been to the US a couple of times. Well. Now that I am going to be in the US, maybe, just maybe, we'd see each other more often. However, the life of a medicine student is not an easy one...so we shall see. |
