An enigma. After all she behaved so airy, and yet from the pedigree (Columbia, and now NYU) you knew she wasn't. Perhaps that will be her tactic in the courtroom: just when witnesses or opposing counsel least expect it, she'll plunge her knife in.

Actually the above isn't true anymore. The last time
I met her - she definitely was a changed woman. Defintely a lawyer.
Horrifying what law school can do to you....
Anyway. She surprised most of us when in a space of 2 years she ended up in 3 different law firms. I thought I was bad, but man... Still . I always told her that there was life outside practice, and that life in industry was a little better than in practice. She didn't believe me till she finally took the plunge and left practice. And I believe she is enjoying herself now!
<=Christmas 1996 - looking very lawyerly with a Cheese-hat on her head. In Britain, we barristers wear a wig... |
While in Hong Kong, she worked in 9 Queen's Road, so we had one or two lunches together. I do not know what she was looking for out here in Hong Kong, but it became clear very quickly that she had found something that would have a major impact on her life. Unwanted, unexpected but there.
