Hi! Let me introduce
myself, this site, and the guild they both belong to.
My name's Sean, at faires known as Cyrus Muckscrapper. I'm a Seadog. When
we recently departed the REC Renaissance Faires (RPFN and RPFS, go here
for details if you aren't familiar with REC or their events), I personally
had a total of 11 "big faires" with REC and a few smaller ones
that I'd worked either as a Seadog or with other groups under my belt.
That's me.
This site is a project that I started some time back in '98 or '99. It's a project that the guild as a whole sporadically contributes to, and contains a wealth of information (mostly correct) and sources for Seadogs as well as anyone interested in 'maritime theatrical entertainment' - shanties, history, etc. This particular section is meant as a guide to those who aren't yet Seadogs, but wish to join.
And finally, the Seadogs... To get a better view of us, I'd strongly advise first taking a look at www.seadogs.org, our Official Website. As a note, this site is NOT the official Guild of St. Dymphna site. While it is constructed with the somewhat bemused approval of our Guildmaster, any information on this site is subject to change or disavowal (and may be erroneous to begin with, but I try to catch that). If you have questions regarding the guild, I'd suggest checking the main site for info. Anything there supersedes anything here.
As to the guild, the Seadogs are a Performing Arts Troupe working primarily from a backdrop of Renaissance Sailors. We specialize in multiple forms of entertainment, with elements of improvisational theatre, singing, stage theatre, music and anything else that we and the customers find amusing. Our specific focus is on a 'theatrically correct reenactment of the life of sailors of all time periods from a comedic point of view'. While not strictly "Historic Re-enactors", we do keep history in mind during our work.
On a personal level, we are a fairly close knit group, meeting not only at our events, but at several planned rehearsals over the course of the year as well as several social events.
Chances are, that if you are here, you've at the very least met or seen us at an event. If not, then feel free to browse around this site and our Official site, and contact us if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Cyrus Muckscrapper,
