Introduction
    Walt Disney Pictures' "Fantasia 2000" is the first feature-length film to be formatted and exhibited in IMAX® theaters. It has an exclusive four-month engagement at IMAX® theaters around the world on a mere 76 theatres from January 1, 2000 to April 30, 2000.

Imax Theatres
    IMAX® theaters utilize the world's largest film format. It was invented and created in (Western) Canada. The large-format film for IMAX® projectors is ten times larger than a conventional 35mm frame, the format used in your typical movie theater. This large-format film is needed to project super-sharp images on screens up to eight stories high accompanied by state-of-the-art sound systems that make audiences feel as though they are part of the on-screen experience. The film used in an IMAX® projector is strong enough to pull a truck, and the length of the 90-minute "FANTASIA/2000" film is approximately six miles.

Fantasia Itself!
    "Fantasia 2000" is a continuation of Walt Disney's bold 1940 experiment in sight and sound, offering an exciting showcase for the talents of a new generation of Disney animatiors and filmakes as they visually interpret classical compositions by Beethoven, Shostakovich, Respighi, Saint-Saëns, Elgar, Gershwin, and Stravinsky. Originally conceived as a "repertoire program" with changing musical selections, the film returns in time for the millenium with seven new selections plus "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" from the 1940 classic. World-renowned conductor James Levine takes up the baton this time out as he leads the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Like its pioneering predecssor, Fantasia 2000 embraces all the latest technological tools and innovations to tell its stories and create breathtaking imagery.
    Abstract imagery and a beautiful pastel palette was used to depict a colorful tale of Symphony No. 5 Stunning 3D computer animation is used to bring life to a pod of whales that miraculously take flight when a spuernova explodes above their iceberge-laden habitat. In this X, the highly flappable duck takes on the role of Noah's assistant and finds himself leading a procession of animal couples onto the ark. When he becomes separated from his own better half, Daisy Duck, confusion follows along with much pomp and some comical circumstance.

'Breaking all the rules'
    Unlike most other Disney movies, this film is geared at adults rather than children. Also, you will not find Fantasia toys at your local McDonalds. However, you can purchase beanie characters from Disney stores and the theatre. Also, an marketing technique was not thought up in advance before the movie was even created...even the IMAX® conception was an afterthought.
