In the fall of 1998, the Newcomerstown Thespians performed the two-act comedy, Is There a Comic In the House? The story followed 8 out of work comedians living in Shotzie Starr's boarding house and looking for that one last shot, or their on big break into stardom. Suddenly, things go awry when 3 criminals show up at the boarding house with a hostage. The comics see all of the media publicity the criminals are getting as a way for them to break out into show business, and the laughs ensue. This marked the last non-musical performance by the Thespians to date.
