General Information
This site contains over 10,000 avatars in over 20 different avatar categories. The avatars here were created for any chat software which supports the use of custom avatars. The image sizes and specifications were originally created to work with Virtual Places software, such as the former Excite Talk. They also work with many message boards as "icons".

Avatars, such as those featured in my avatar galleries, are used as small, graphical representations of the chat participants. In other words, you "wear" the avatar as a representation of yourself! There are many galleries of avatars in which to "shop" or you can create your own unique avatars with graphics software such as Paint Shop Pro 7 (recommended!) or Adobe Photoshop.

    Chat Clients
    For more information on the chat clients where the avatars may be used, see the information below. We've focused on the two better known clients. But the avatars may actually be used in any chat that allows images to be used as avatars, provided the size is acceptable. Many discussion boards also allow "icons" or avatars. (*Feel free to download as many as you like, but please, no direct linking to the images.)
    Excite's Super Chat

    While Excite has recently changed, most of the avatars should still work with their software. We've taken inventory of all the avatars and modified as necessary to ensure they all meet the 10K file size limit now imposed by Excite's Super Chat. (Please let us know if you find any that exceed the limit.) From what we understand, some of the customary functions are not available at this time, but based on available information, every effort is being made to make the new program as functional as the old Excite Talk. Features such as browser capability, gestures and file sharing are said to be "in the works".
    Halsoft Chat

    Halsoft is the old Virtual Places with all the old bells and whistles that we came to love as well as some new perks. The primary difference is now it's a pay service. Because it's a paid subscriber service, you won't find the chat rooms littered with advertising and "troublesome" chatters should not be as much of a problem..
