...Drama Fiend...
Hi. My name is Michelle and I'm a dramaholic.
I don't know what has gottin in to me but lately I've O.D.ed (overdosed) on watching all these movies and actually reading books! Sheesh, it's like I don't have ENOUGH drama in my life so I look for more. Well, I thought I'd share with you what I've read and watched along with a very brief description of the plot and ratings. I might as well give credit to myself somehow. I never thought I'd spend my summer this way. Anyway, in the past five weeks I've read:
J.D. Salinger's, The Catcher in the Rye [***] This novel is about a teenager surviving in his own lonesome world. It took me the second time reading this book to like this book. The protagonist is very funny and blunt.
Mark Twain's, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn [**] This novel is about a white teenager and black slave who attempt to escape. I didn't like this book the first time and I did not like it the second time. It had its long pauses and the movies don't help either because it excludes a lot of scenes.
Lorraine Hansberry's, Raisin in the Sun [***] This is a play starring Lethal Weapon'sDanny Glover. Him and his family struggle in poverty but manage to find the best of things towards the end. It was pretty good but maybe a little too dramatic for me. Especially the movie.
Wally Lamb's, She's Come Undone I just started reading this book yesterday and so far pretty dope stuff. It's about a female protagonist, but written by a male, who reaches several climax's in her life from age four until adulthood. I'm only on chapter four during her pre-teen years so I haven't gotten very far.
And in the past week I've watched:
Fake in the Funk [***] This is a comedy about a Chinese boy who grows up in the hood of ATL. But later on, he moves to LA where the Black community is confused by his identity. It's hilarious but probably more directed to the Asians and Blacks. It's a combination of White Men Can't Jump and Rush Hour starring Dante Busco. The Filipino fellow who played Roofio in Captain Hook.
Porky's[*] This is a 80's movie about a bunch of horny, perverted losers who try to "get some." It's supposed to be the original version of American Pie. I didn't really get to watch it because the people I was watching it with already watched it so I didn't pay much attention to it.
Mi Familia [***] This movie is about a Latino family growing up in LA. It consists of a cast of familiar, popular Latinos. Bonus: contains cute hunnies in there.
Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me [**1/2] This movie needs no introduction. I knew too much about this movie before I watched it and maybe that's why it wasn't so funny for me. I guess I got overly excited when I watched it and was disappointed when my hopes were up too high. The first one was definitely better. Oh yeah, for those AOL or AIM users, my screen name is MINIMEshel. hehe.
American Pie[***1/2] Need I say more? Watch it yourself.
South Park[*] I never liked South Park in the first place but I heard this was good. I don't know if it was because I missed the first 20 minutes or what but this movie was probably one of the worse movies I've seen. It had its funny scenes with Satin and Sadaam Hussain, but man...never again will I listen to Justin!
Eyes Wide Shut [***] Intensive female nudity. That's all I have to say. It's basically about a married couple, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, who lead this bizarre life. One through a dream and one in reality. I didn't completely understand this movie so it looks like I'll have to watch it again. That means until it comes out on video or cable. So here's a little warning for those Eyes Wide Shut virgins, pay attention!
A Thin Red Line [] It's about war. I hate war. I fell asleep in the first ten minutes.
