Rationale for Standard 1

Development, Learning, & Motivation

The artifacts I have selected to include in my portfolio for evidence of my understanding of development, learning and motivation are a multiple intelligences paper and cooperative learning power point from Learning and Assessment.

My paper on the multiple intelligences describes each intelligence independently and discusses how Howard Gardener came to his conclusions. The paper also discusses my results from a multiple intelligences inventory and how I plan to use that information in the future. I also discussed ways in which the multiple intelligences could be used in regards to learning and assessment. I included the paper because it showed my knowledge of one very important educational theory and how it related to the development of children.

Cooperative learning is a topic I hope to explore further in the future, therefore I felt it was important to include a power point presentation detailing the process. Most of the lessons I have taught so far have used cooperative learning theories. I am a strong supporter of interdependent learning therefore I wanted to include proof of my deep understanding.

Both pieces of evidence fully support my understanding of development, learning and motivation. I hope to include further pieces of evidence in the future as I continue to explore educational philosophies and theories first hand in the classroom.
