An Unseen Hand

by Diane M. LeDuc

from " Poems For The Healing Journey

It is in the blackest of night that I find my heart,

Adrift on a sea of sadness.

I fear this sorrow will drown me

As it pours over me, wave after relentless wave.

There is a light on the distant shore

But I am so weary, I have no energy to reach it.

I search for an understanding soul

To swin beside me, urge me on.

In the darkness I hear voices only

Drifting by me, mocking my pain.

It is so cold here -- I feel so alone here.

Yet I know there is a Strength much greater than my despair.

He will stay beside me, lift me out of these murky waters,

If only I call on him. "JESUS!"

I raise my hand, and suddenly there is another,

Holding mine.
