· Range of Vision is Asia done well. This smart site brings Eastern culture to the West
and, admittedly, mixes it up. Please read Views: 1-Welcome To the East/West World, as soon as you finish a quick tour of the Java quote applet, the very clever use of a dropdown selection box as a text box on the main page (I thought it was a floating frame), and a few photos in the Journal. I was charmed by the "intelligence" and beauty.
Brian's Brain is a games and jokes site, done tongue-in-cheek. While the Javascript Body Calculator and Madlibs would be better as Forms, they are entertaining. The Humorous Games and Top 10 Lists are great. Intelligent design and a nice mix of personal and commercial. Terrific Image Map! My impression is "clever."
· What can you do with digital photography on the Web? Barry Smylie combines
it with Javascript, music and the occasional frame to create, get this, an art gallery, stories, documentaries, an e-zine and more! See it to believe it -- it's beautiful. You can zoom in on the art, and every presentation is different! But it isn't all design here; there is excellent art. Easy to spend a half hour here, real easy. I was "thrilled."
NASCAR Mania is a true resource for those so inclined. The frames are invisible
and the look is clean. The Java text scroller lends life to the main page. The selections include news, schedules, results (incredible detail) and profiles (Earnhardt, Gordon, Jarrett and more; photos included). Tracks described are Atlanta, Indy and Poconos. Editorial submissions accepted. My impression? "Learned something!"
· Farah Aqil is a fan who celebrates the beloved Malaysian actor, singer, director, composer,
P. Ramlee. The website is gorgeous. It includes 400 photos to download and the thumbnails help you with direction; there is even a script of a movie that was typed as it played (a lot of work!). Very nice bio and Flash logo. My impression? "Dedication!"
Margie's Music features MP3 downloads in the most pleasing settings.
The background sets are beautiful. Selections are Opera, Movies, Musicals, Oldies and Favorites. One musical is featured for about two weeks, currently Grease. Favorites are often-requested downloads. Visit Help for a clear understanding of the download format. My impression is "bookmarkable!"
Can you believe that someone has keyed in the complete plays of William Shakespeare? The design is very clean and simple, allowing
the weight of the subject to speak for itself. The transcripts are excellently outlined. But the first thing that hits you are the 2 buttons for complete downloads (two formats). What a fine service. Impression: "Wow!"
Blues Lyrics Online is brought to you by Bluesman Harry. In a very serious, professional manner, the Blues Language glossary defines terms from books, websites and visitors with links to sources. If you wanted to start a Blues CD collection, what would you buy? See the Blues Collection Project tab! Find indexes to 88 artists' lyrics in 3 formats, plus histories, maps, trees and more. My impression is "enlightening!"
· There is beautiful wallpaper at Le Royaume des Wallpapers! See approximately 90 thumbnails,
many of which are sure to please. And when you're finished, click on the owner's two other sites, one of which is digital. This site is so well-organized that you will have no trouble with the French (mine is rusty). I left feeling "glad I found it!"
· Have I found a treasure for you! How To Make a Webpage in AOL speaks
right to you, works WITH you, and praises you. Written by an educator of adults, the owner will have all of you AOLers published in a half hour. There are 3 stages, taking you through Tables. And there are 46 or so testimonials of users! No doubt, it's "a gem."
· I have searched long for a pretty genealogy site, and here it is: Julia A. Heaton Krutilla. All genealogy sites are extremely educational and represent a huge amount of work, and usually suffer from far too much detail on a page (both content and programming). Not Julia's, and she is juggling 6000 ancestors! A pleasing color scheme is carried throughout, navigation is very clear, and understatement and intelligence reign. Impression? "Lovely."
· Mr. G's Virtual World of Physics attractively presents curriculum
for physics students in a certain high school. Visual interest is provided by primary colors on a black background, organization into Student / Teacher / Parent sections, and Java applets and other physics graphics. There are great links here to fun-science sites. Yes, this is a homepage. It is "a plum."
Everything you ever wanted to know or disprove about Saint Joan of Arc is available here, from examples of her
signature, to a photo of a drawing of her armor. The color scheme, graphics and lists are attractive, organized and help to break up a ponderous amount of research and excerpts, which spans two websites. The detail is phenomenal; see the Timeline. This work is "exhaustive."
Tales of Twilight holds the original works of John Cyr: poetry, stories and photos. There is a nice mouseover on the entry page, good framework for the images section, and a whole lot of work (60 poems alone). I would really enjoy seeing more image work from John. My impression is "more!"
