But most importantly, the goosegirl is the splendiferous climacic epitomizing epiphany of the fairy tale! They have everything, every trait that one could desire in a non-evil fairy-tale character, all in a neat package.
The "common" kind of goosegirl is kind, humble, and stunningly beautiful; they are the classic Cinderellas. These tend to either accomplish great things or at least help the heroes on their way by the virtue of their goodness. Or, people just fall madly in love with them, as happened in the story of Tattercoats.
Yes, goosegirls can be straightforward. But how often are characters in fairy tales straightforward?! So often, goosegirls are the guise used to hide greater, grander, more powerful things. If a princess needs to assume a new identity, she usually looks no further than the nearest goosegirl, as she did in the story of The Prince in the Ivy Tower.
And ever-so-often, they save the day! One good, and versified, example is the story of The Belching Beast!
