DNWTR - Do Not Want To Read

Sloppy Firsts - Megan McCafferty - read February/March 2003 - A/9

Jessica Darling is beginning the second half of her high school sophomore year without her best friend, Hope. Hope's parents packed her up and moved her off to Tennessee from New Jersey, hoping to save her from the fate of drugs and suicide which befell her brother Heath. So Jessica has to deal with the rest of her clique, whom she and Hope referred to as the "Clueless Crew" by herself. The Clueless Crew is pretty much that - only interested in boys and clothes and already pretty well-versed in sex & drinking. Jessica isn't particularly fond of this lifestyle, but she still hangs around with these folks, basically because she doesn't have any other friends.

Jessica also tangles with her parents - her father who is only interested in her track meets and in following her on her runs and her mother, who gets along better with her sister Bethany, especially now that they are planning her wedding.

Jessica is a bit more self-involved than say... Mia Thermopolis, but that's okay. She grows up and learns more about the value of friendship in this novel and I, for one, enjoyed watching it unfold.

The Rant Zone - Dennis Miller - listened to March 2003 - B+/7

This was my first Rant experience and I have to say that I enjoyed it. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I wound up getting a traffic warning while listening to it in the car! Dennis demolishes everything from baseball to the now-defunct XFL to the Clintons, to George W. Bush. No one is safe from his rants. If you are a regular viewer of his show on HBO, you will probably be disappointed with this book because most of the rants come from the show, though I think some are new. I listened to this on abridged audio (wonder what got cut!) and he reads his own work, which is definitely important for a book like this. I'll keep reading the rants!

What I'm Reading Right Now...

Bragging Rights: A Season Inside the SEC, College Football's Toughest Conference - Richard J. Ernsberger, Jr.

Borrowed this from Cass' friend Alex and am reading it sporadically. Alex is a huge Ole Miss fan and I'm a die-hard Georgia girl. Hopefully, I will learn some more about football, especially in the SEC from this book. Now I've just got to get my hands on Football for Dummies.

Tippy-Toe Murder - Leslie Meier

Second novel in the Lucy Stone series. I read the first book last year around Christmastime (as it was a holiday story) and enjoyed the series enough to keep reading.

Single White E-mail - Jessica Adams

I've not been reading this since I picked up The Red Tent, but I was enjoying it. It is probably on the back burner until I read all the books I need to read for March for my book clubs.

She Went All the Way - Meggin Cabot

I've read all the Princess Diaries so far and also enjoyed another of Meggin's books for adults, The Boy Next Door. That said, while this novel is holding my interest, it's not the type of novel that I really enjoy. It seems too formulaic, and not in a good way...

Home for the Holidays and Other Calamities - Chris Radant

This book was written before the movie starring Jodie Foster. So far, it all seems to be a bit over my head...
