BRAVE VOLUNTEERS



Scared, Cold, in pain,

the dust hasn't settled yet.

Pinned in, crying,

my clothes are ripped, red, and wet.

Lights, noise, and confusion,

all part of the night.

I'm going to die alone,

give up the fight.



Red lights are flashing,

mixing with blue.

A face appears at my window,

the face is you.

"You're gonna be all right"

is the first thing you say.

A reassuring voice wants me to stay.



You could have been home with the family,

they need you too.

You worked all day at the job,

your sleeping hours numbered two.

But you went down the hall,

hoping your family is OK.

Now you're here with me and Death,

with comforting words to say.



No time for yourself,

no thought for your safety.

Later you may think your decision was hasty.

"Get the Jaws. Watch that gas;

Keep the people away.

Get his vitals, hose this down."

Some things I hear them say.


You stand in gas,


look in my window,

show no fear.

I look back at you knowing,

your voice is the last I'll ever hear.

Greg Hill, EMT-B, with the Mount Airy Rescue Squad, North Carolina. He is currently enrolled in EMT-I training and plans to become a paramedic!! Saulte!!

Barbara Dixon-Medley, EMT, for the West Norriton Ambulance Squad in West Norriton Twp., PA, just outside Norristown, PA. She has been in service since June 1998. Salute!!

Darrell Camp, EMT/Firefighter, in Cass County, Michigan, has volunteered two years with Cassopolis Ambulance, and a volunteer firefighter for six years! He also works for Ewardsburg Ambulance. He is about to complete advanced EMS training. Darrell says, "There is no 'I' in TEAM, and be careful guys and gals!"

Shaun Rieck- Ambulance Officer, with the South Australian Ambulance Service, Australia. Has worked as a fire/ambulance officer with Woomera Emergency Services Aust, and also were the fire/ambulance service for the Joint Defence facility at Nurrunga with USAirForce and Aust. Defence. With SA Ambulance Service for past 6 months 12/02/00. Salute!!



HERE'S A BRAVE VOLUNTEER:
Theresa Burns, EMT, has been a volunteer for the Cassopolis Area Ambulance Service for the past four and a half years! She plans to take her lisensure to the Paramedic level! Theresa's goal is to become a Paramedic/Firefighter! Salute!



HERE ARE TWO BRAVE VOLUNTEERS:
Timothy Vennell and Dave Ripa, EMTs, in upper Deerfield, New Jersey. They also work for Millville Ambulance in Millville, New Jersey. They work and volunteer for days at a time with no sleep. They are really great guys. Salute!!



HERE'S A BRAVE VOLUNTEER:
Lisa T. Knight, Lt. Paramedic. Lisa works for Glade County EMS, in Moore Haven, Florida. She has worked the past 6 years as a paramedic, and the first two years she worked as an EMT. Lisa has been a volunteer for the Ortona Volunteer Fire Department for the past 10 years, and has been the Assistant Chief for the past 3 years!! Way to go Lisa! Salute!!

Lucas Bourquin, EMT-B. Lucas is an EMS volunteer in Warren, Illinois, and has been on duty for the past 6 months. Volunteering at age 19 is awesome! Way to go Lucas! Salute!!

Nicole Potter, Jr. Volunteer. Nicole is a junior volunteer for the Bethlehem Volunteer Ambulance Service, in Bethlehem, NY. She has been volunteering since February of 2001. Way to go Nicole!! Salute!!

Kylene Lutton, EMT. For the past five years Kylene has been a volunteer for the Vernon Twp Ambulance squad in Vernon, New Jersey. She recently received her NREMT and will be working in Phoenix Arizona this October! Good going Kylene!! Salute!!

Lieutenant/Firefighter/EMT, Michael Hughes. He has been volunteering for the Marion County Fire Rescue 23 in Florida for the past three years! Salute!!

HERE'S A BRAVE VOLUNTEER:
Mary Stetson, EMT-B. Mary was born and raised in New Haven, Connecticut, and became an LPN 26 years ago. She now lives in New Underwood, SD (pop. 750). Six years ago she became an EMT-B. Two years ago, she became crew chief of New Underwood Ambulance!! Last year they responded to 161 calls. Nursing is still her career, but Mary says, "EMS is my life! I am a brave volunteer who loves what I do." Way to go Mary!! Salute!!



HERE ARE TWO BRAVE VOLUNTEERS!:
Captain, JUDY KIRBY, EMT-B/Firefighter, has served as a volunteer for 38 years, she joined by her son at her side, JAMES YOUNG, EMT-B/Jr. Firefighter, volunteering for 3 years and he is hoping to move on to Paramedic in the next year. They both are from the S.M. Vauclain Fire Co, in Ridley Township, PA. SALUTE!!



HERE'S A BRAVE VOLUNTEER:
Rick Ankeny, Firefighter/EMT-B/Wildland Firefighter. He is a member of the Hartford Area Fire & Rescue in Hartford SD. Rick has been a volunteer Firefighter for 12 1/2 years and am EMT for 2 years. SALUTE!!
