The Tarsus American School began its second century of providing Turkish youth with a dynamic education designed to foster caring, understanding , and concerned citizens who will continue to lead and serve their country as do the hundreds of TAS graduates. Following the combined Turkish and American curriculum with a particular stress on the daily use of English , TAS students develop skills which will help them to analyze and generate ideas and concepts which will improve the world for future generations to come.
The best way to do this is clear to me in my vision of the school's mission: we must provide the best teachers for our students; we must provide students with the most productive academic skills; we must teach English to the TAS students with an emphasis on learning from native speakers who are crediantialed from the best overseas universities; we must teach the students the social skills necessary to live and work in an ever-changing global economy; and finally we must teach students to think independently, individually , and critically . Without these latter skills , we are simply another school in Turkey. From the list of graduates who have left TAS and gone on to become the top political, economic and social leaders of Turkey in the present day, we know we are not just "another school in Turkey." In fact, Economy Magazine (1994) has noted TAS is one of the top ten schools in Turkey, due mainly to the success of our graduates . For this we are extremely proud. We will continue to improve in all academic and will work toward an even better school for future generations.
Our students are living in an area of Turkey where they may not be provided with enabling circumstances to meet with people from other cultures on a daily basis. By interfacing with the teachers and administrators at TAS, we offer a challenging oppotunity for students to work one-on-one with highly qualified, well versed teachers, both Turkish and foreign, from many nationalities and ethnic groups. This in itself is broadening for the students at TAS. We believe our future is full of exciting and demanding educational advantages . We hope you will choose to become a part of this ever-evolving school and culture of The Tarsus American School.
