AN EXPLANATION OF JOHN CH. 1-3 AND MATTHEW CH. 3-5

THE DEITY OF CHRIST AND THE TESTIMONY OF JOHN THE BAPTIST, Ch. 1. Chapter 1 of St. John speaks of the deity of Jesus Christ. Here, he recorded John the Baptist's testimony about Jesus Christ.

Verses 15-34 -- This is not the actual baptism of Jesus by John. Rather, this is John the Baptist's testimony concerning Jesus during his encounter with the priests and Levites while he was baptizing people in Bethbara, Jordan.  The following reasons are evident:

 1. Christ's baptism is immediately followed by the temptation in the   wilderness for 40 days (Matt. 4: 1-10; Mark 1:12-13; Luke 4:1-13).

 2.  The 2 days event here in verses 15-34 were followed by Christ's calling of disciples (verses 35-51) not by temptation.

WHEN DID THE BAPTISM AND TEMPTATION OF JESUS OCCUR IN JOHN?
It is possible that the baptism of Jesus followed by the devil's temptation in the wilderness occurred before verse 29 of John chapter 1.  When John the Baptist saw Jesus, Jesus had just won a victory with the Devil and John again testified of Him. In verses 31-34, there was no actual baptizing of Jesus but John was just relating His testimony when he baptized Christ. The events in John 1:15-3:36 possibly occurred between verse 11 and 12 of Matt. chapter 4.

DISCIPLESHIP AND MISSION STAGE, John 1:35-45
Jesus first called His disciples in Jordan. The first calling is the period when the disciples are getting acquainted with Jesus and Jesus is in the process of building their confidence on Himself.  Jesus called them so that they will learn and understand more who He really is, and what is His mission on earth.  Part of His discipleship strategies are, exposing them to His way of life, His works and personal evangelism, and His dealings with people in various ministerial situations.  Thus, creating in them a passion for souls.  Furthermore, He strengthened their commitments by means of giving assignments (John 2:5-8) and delegating of responsibilities, such as the baptizing of converts by His direct authority (John 3:22; John 4:1-2) which created in them a hunger for involvement in God's work so that they'll be prepared for a greater challenge in life.

PUBLIC MINISTRY AND CHURCH ORGANIZATION, Matthew 4:17-ch.7
The first calling of Christ in Jordan was a calling for them to follow and learn from Him.  The second calling of Christ in Matthew 4:17-22 was in Galilee, a calling for full commitment and involvement in His mission.  Luke 5:11 says, "...they forsook all and followed Him."  When Christ saw that they were ready, and He knew He had a small band of faithful, willing, and zealous men, He started His public ministry and challenged His disciples to a higher calling, a calling for full commitment and involvement to His mission. Then, Christ delivered to them His greatest and challenging sermon. (Matt. ch. 5-7).  Therefore, the Lord's church was started in Galilee but it was in chapter 5 in the mount where he formally organized it and delivered his organizational sermon there. It is my opinion that organization is a process which started from Christ's calling of his disciples in Matt. 4 until in Matt. 5 in the mountain top, they were formally organized as the Lord delivered his organizational sermon. Several reasons why the assembly was started in Galilee and that assembly in a short time was organized as a full pledge NT church in Mat.5.
 1. They were called out assembly of scripturally baptized believers.
 2. They were covenanted together (committed)...
-- under The New Testament teachings
-- to execute the commission of our Lord.
3. They were taught

The events in Matt. ch. 4-7 fits well our definition of a New Testament Church.
