PEDIATRIC VITAL SIGN QUIZ

If any call gets an EMT's heart pumping, it is a pediatric call. I know I have a tendency to get somewhat nervous while enroute. We in EMS must never forget the fundamentals, regardless of the patients age. What provoked me to create this page was this...about a year ago, tones went off for a pediatric call about 22 miles away. Thoughts were racing through my mind about what we might find, once on scene. It was a medical call...an unresponsive 18-month old. I broke the silence by asking the EMT what the average respiratory rate for an 18-month old was...I knew the answer...I wanted to discuss fundamentals...the EMT gave me an Adult respiratory normal rate...so, I feel that review of basic, pediatric vital signs is entirely appropriate.

Learn lots!!...Good luck...Joe
