JOHN JACOB GORSALITZ was born 4 Jun
1833, Prussia, Germany,
died 22 Mar 1899, Ethel, Ont. He married WILHELMINA KAZOR, who
died in childbirth in 1864 in Gorlitz, Germany.
John buried Cranbrook, Ont. (Now Ethel, Ont).
They had 3 children. Charles, Wilhelmina and Frederick.
Not much is known of John's background
in Germany. Gorlitz where they came from is located in the Eastern part of Germany and
after WWII became part of the Communist Region of Germany and the Western part of
Communist Poland, thus trying to do research was difficult.
John and his 3 young children left
Germany in 1866 accompanied by
his brother-in-law Frederick Kazor and his wife, Ernstine Ehlert who
looked after the 3 children. They lived in Toronto, Ont., for awhile, where John married
his 2nd wife, Wilhelmina Pressing. They then moved to Wellesley, Ont., where they stayed
until 1876 when they moved to Milverton, Ont., and in 1883 they moved to Huron Co.,
Grey Twp., Ont., where John bought his first farm W 1/2 Lot 19
Con 12 from Jacob Wolf.
Frederick Kazor and wife Ernstine
Ehlert, were in Wellesley, Ont.,
with them where 7 of their 8 children were born. When John went to Milverton, Fred and
Ernstine moved to Nebraska.
John Jacob Gorsalitz re-married around
1869/1870 to Wilhelmina Pressing, born 14 May 1849, Gorantan, Prussia, Germany, died
12 Oct 1917, Ethel, Ont.
Both buried Cranbrook Cemetery, Ethel, Ont.
They had 6 children. John, William, Emma, Henry, Ida and Caroline.
The story is that Wilhelmina was on the
same ship as John and that was where they first met.
