What is NetMapII ?
NetMapII is an Ethernet based Network Protocol Analyzer. It
allows you to view the activity on your Ethernet network. NetMapII also
can be used to generate traffic on your network (for stress testing, etc.).
NetMapII supports any Ethernet card which has a packet driver available for
it. The basic package includes a packet driver for NE2000 compatible NICs
(Network Interface Controllers). Packet Drivers for over 100 different NICs
are also available, all for free !
NetMapII requires a network card (NIC) and a PC or compatible. It will run on
any system, however, a 486 is recomended. NetMapII runs in DOS. If you are a
Windows 95 user you must shut down and run from DOS. NetMapII does not work in
a DOS Box (I don't know why yet). It is a very fast program (written entirely
in 8086 assembler) which uses zooming windows. It is a solid Bug-Free program
which has been around since 1991. It was previously sold for $500 but has recently
been given away free of charge as free-ware. It is owned by KezWare Inc. and has
no restrictions on its use or distribution. It is an excellent network Microscope
which has become even more popular lately due to the many bugs being found in
Windows 95 networks. NetMapII has all of the features typically associated with
expensive Protocol Analyzers which sell for as much as $10,000. It is an excellent
tool for diagnosing network activity and testing networked computers.
