ABOUT STUART
Updated May 14, 2001
I used to live in Honolulu, but I recently moved back to Mililani, Hawaii. Until May 31, 1999, I attended Mililani High School, where I was miserable. From my freshman to junior year, I had four intolerable social studies teachers in a row. At least during my senior year, the psychology teacher I had was fairly decent. Of course, I did have a number of teachers who taught well in spite of the faulty public education system.
In case you are wondering, yes, I am of full Japanese descent. However, I am all-American, down to my extreme individualism and anti-authoritarian streak, which can be seen in my online essays.
I used to call myself a "libertarian," because I agree with the Libertarian Party's belief that it is immoral to initiate physical force, fraud, and the threat thereof against any other human being's life, liberty, and property. However, the problem with the libertarian movement lies in its leaders' unwillingness to admit that this "non-aggression principle" is based upon logic, rather than any religious doctrine or arbitrary whim, lest they offend the religious people and arbitrary whim-lovers in the party. As a result, I have come to the conclusion that the libertarian movement is still too undisciplined and philosophically bankrupt to go anywhere. If the libertarian movement is to make any real impact, then its leaders should adopt the philosophy of Objectivism, of which I am in great agreement with.
MY PHILOSOPHY
Here are the basics of my philosophy.
Overall Theme: Individualism ("I gotta be me," or "There is no such thing as a 'group of people as a whole'; 'groups of people' are only collections of individuals with their own thoughts, desires, and motives.")
Metaphysics: Objective Reality ("Existence exists," or "Something cannot be itself and not-itself at the same time and in the same context.")
Epistemology: Reason (as opposed to faith or "intuition") ("Nature, to be commanded, must be obeyed," or "You can't have your cake and eat it too.")
Ethics: Rational Selfishness; Rational Self-Interest; Rational Egoism ("An individual should not live just for others, just as he does not expect others to live just for him," or "A man is an end in himself.")
Politics: Unregulated Capitalism; the Free Market; Free Enterprise ("Give me liberty, or give me death!" The only sociopolitical-economic system under which freedom can exist is capitalism.)
You may notice that my own views have basic similarties with the philosophy of Objectivism, which was founded by novelist-philosopher Ayn Rand.
While I agree with most of Objectivism, it's not such a big deal for me to considered an Objectivist, since the great authority I hold above all others is that of my own independent judgment, which is subordinate only to the natural laws of science. While words like Objectivist do help describe my basic framework of ideas to other people, if you want to know whom I consider to be the "boss of me," the answer is: me.
ONLINE CLUBS THAT I'M IN
YAHOO'S E-MAIL LISTS
Reason Club of Honolulu
I am now president of this club. Most of its members attend Hawaii Pacific University, but the e-mail list now includes many people in completely different states and countries. It works to promote free-market economics and limited government, and its members are encouraged to read Objectivist literature.
College Ayn Rand Fans of Hawaii
This is still a very small group. If you're a Hawaii resident sympathetic to Ayn Rand's philosophy, please add yourself to this yahoogroup's "pending member" list.
Libertarian Discusssion Club at the U.H.-Manoa
I'm neither a true libertarian nor a student at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, but I joined this club anyway to help its founder, Pablo Wegesend, stir up a pro-capitalist movement at this college. At this point in time (May 14, 2001), the club still only has one libertarian member (Pablo) and one supporter of Objectivism (me). So, if you're a student at U.H. and favor limited government and/or like Ayn Rand, please go to the Web site and click on "join this group"! =)
MSN (MICROSOFT NETWORK) COMMUNITIES I'M IN
Objectivists
This is a fun group! I especially like the insightful messages posted by the founder, "ChrissyCrunch." She's a wise woman!
Objectivist Singles
Yes, ladies, at this point in time (May 14, 2001), I'm still available.
