Mallard Fillmore
By Bruce Tinsley

All I can say is that it's awesome! The best series was the one in which superhero/villain OSHA Boy harasses the work-at-home cartoonist "for his own good." That was during the week of 02/21/00

ONLINE PERIODICALS
For Intellectual Activists at College

Capitalism Magazine
The online periodical with the most eloquent articles anywhere. Now updated daily!

Free Radical
I was surprised to find that this was published in New Zealand, since the problems they describe are identical to ours.

Freedom Daily
The title is misleading, because the magazine is monthly; not daily. Collected here is every issue from 1990 to the present. The articles are short, sweet, on-target, and uncompromising. Unlike those at other publications, these libertarians aren't afraid of acknowledging their intellectual debt to Ayn Rand.

The Occasional
This site is updated only when the webmasters feel like it, hence the title. Still, the essays I saw on it the last time I visited were good.

LEAST-BIASED ONLINE PERIODICALS
Also for Student Intellectual Activists

Fox News
This is a severely flawed news site, but not as slanted as most of them are. Biostatistician Steven J. Milloy is the best columnist in their opinions section.

Jewish World Review
You don't need to be Jewish to enjoy the vast selection of op-eds from Jews and Gentiles alike. The columns by social conservatives Arianna Huffington, Dr. Laura, Cal Thomas, George Will, and Charles Krauthammer and pretty awful. On the other hand, the ones by libertarians Thomas Sowell, Larry Elder, Walter E. Williams, and Ben Wattenberg are great, along with the insightful commentary from fiscal conservatives Ann Coulter and Betsy Hart. This publication would be even better, however, if it featured the writings of world's greatest syndicate columnist, Robert W. Tracinski.

Orange County Register
This is the only mainstream print newspaper with a consistently intelligent opinions section.

FOR COLLEGE ACTIVISTS

Robert W. Tracinksi's Notes on Writing
Prominent writer Tracinski gives great advice on how to improve the effectiveness of your editorials, letters to the editor, and book reviews.

Dr. Michael J. Hurd's Living Resources Center
This is the psychotherapeutic service company of clinical psychologist Michael J. Hurd, Ph.D. Besides practicing personal counseling through office visits, phone calls, and e-mail, Dr. Hurd also hosts the radio program Solutions--Not Excuses from his home of Chevy Chase, Maryland. He is by far the best clinical psychologist I presently know of.

Edwin A. Locke
This page doesn't have any psychology on it. It's of interest to psychology majors because it contains the biographical information of Dr. Edwin A. Locke of the Ayn Rand Institute. He's a behaviorial psychologist at the University of Maryland at College Park.

A CHARITY THAT'S ACTUALLY WORTHWHILE

National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship
(NFTE; pronounced "nifty") - This organization benefits teenagers in poor, inner-city ghettos by teaching them entrepreneurship, free of charge. This was started by a former high school teacher named Steve Mariotti, as seen on the TV special Greed with John Stossel. Mr. Mariotti taught at New York's Boys & Girls High School--one of the most dangerous schools in the nation--yet, just like in a movie, he inspired his students to love learning through very unorthodox methods. In his case, he got his students to care by teaching them how math, english, and politeness relate to making $$money$$. This group goes by the philosophy, "If you give a man a fish, you'll feed him for a day. But if you teach him how to fish, you'll feed him for a lifetime."

INDIVIDUALIST PHILOSOPHY

Ayn Rand Institute
This philsophical is the think tank of the most hardcore Objectivists around. Read the essays on this site, because they're really, really good!

Objectivism.Net
The most comprehensive collection of credible Objectivist sites I have come across yet. These sites elaborate on the virtues of reason, the human ego, the free market, technological progress, and limited government.

Objectivism Today
Another good web ring for sites relating to the moral necessity of reason, rational self-interest, and capitalism.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal
Explains the principle of capitalism very clearly.

FREE-MARKET THINK TANKS

Center for the Moral Defense of Capitalism
This is one of the few free-market groups which realizes that capitalism must be defended, not just on utilitarian grounds, but on moral grounds. It's also the most philosophically consistent one.

Future of Freedom Foundation
The people at this think tank are incredibly wise and insightful, and they are intellectually honest enough to admit their philosphical debt to Ayn Rand.

Competitive Enterprise Institute
Fred L. Smith, Jr., this foundation's founder, wisely praised Ayn Rand on C-SPAN2 on May 14, 2001. What's more, their op-eds are very interesting.

Mackinac Center for Public Policy
A Michigan-based foundation in support of individual rights. Its arsenal of intellectuals defend the American way from statism.

FAVORITE ONLINE ESSAYSISTS

Robert W. Tracinski, M.A.
Mr. Tracinski, former financial analyst and past chairman of the Center for the Moral Defense of Capitalism, now writes a syndicated column for Creators Syndicate. I consider him to be the wisest essayist listed on this page.

David Holcberg
Mr. Holcberg is a civil engineer in private practice in Marina del Rey, California, and the second wisest essayist on this list.

Steven J. Milloy, Ph.D., J.D.
Dr. Milloy is a bio-statistician, attorney, adjunct scholar at the Cato Institute, and columnist for FoxNews.Com.

Michael Fumento, Esq.
Mr. Fumento, or "Myth-buster," as he likes to be called, is an investigative journalist and attorney specializing in science and health issues. He has provided scientific explanations for the cause of frog mutations and has debunked the pseudo-science of the Oscar-winning motion picture Erin Brockovich.

Thomas Sowell, Ph.D.
Dr. Sowell is a professor of economics at Stanford University and a fellow at its Hoover Institution.
| Capitalism Magazine Archive | Jewish World Review Archives |

Walter E. Williams, Ph.D.
Dr. Williams is a professor of economics at George Mason University. He has appeared on John Stossel's ABC-TV documentaries Freeloaders and Greed, both of which defended laissez-faire capitalism. He has also guest-hosted on The Rush Limbaugh Show on the radio.
| Capitalism Magazine Archive | Jewish World Review Archives |

Larry Elder
Mr. Elder is the host of The Larry Elder Show on the radio. He, unlike other libertarians, understands the necessity of the existence of police departments.

RECOMMENDED LAW FIRMS

Institute for Justice
This is the premier Libertarian law firm which openend in 1991. It already boasts an impressive record, what with stopping Donald Trump's attempt to use the zoning laws into forcing a woman out of her own home, and, in the case in which they defended Milwaukee's right to employ the first ever school voucher system, they defeated the most intimidating assemblage of pressure groups ever--the American Civil Liberties Union, the NAACP, the National Educational Assocation, and the American Federation of Teachers. It was unprecedented! No one defeats even one of those groups, let alone all of them combined! Yet, somehow, the Institute for Justice did just that! They also successfully defended the right of entrepreneurial hero Hector Ricketts to compete against New York's "public" bus monopoly. This firm is very exciting; I'm anxious to learn of what high-profile case they have next. The days of the ACLU's heroism is over; it is now the mere puppet of the State it was supposed to defend the people from. Now, freedom has a new defender--Institute for Justice! (Note: at least two litigators at the Institute claim to have a fondness for Ayn Rand.)

Association for Objective Law
Association of Objectivist lawyers.

WHERE TO GET A GOOD READING LIST FROM

Second Renaissance Books
They have an exquisite selection!

SCIENCE

Science & Environmental Policy Project
Objective, credible climatologists debunk the myths of global warnming and ozone holes.

Objective Science
A quarterly science magazine about physics, engineering, and the condition of the planet.

Junk Science.Com
Steven J. Milloy, Ph.D.
A scientist (a bio-statistician, to be exact) debunk the pseudo-scientific propaganda of social activists, lawyers, politicians, advertisers, media, and regulatory agencies, who often obfuscate and distort facts to further their own interests at the expense of truth.

Michael Fumento
Fumento, the self-proclaimed "myth-buster," is an investigative journalist and attorney specializing in science and health issues. He has many fascinating articles that report scientific facts that demonstrate how the mainstream media have sensationalized many alleged risks posed by certain technologies.

Save the Earth--From the Environmentalitss
The awful truth about Greenpeace, the Sierra Club, and other fringe groups.

FAVORITE SINGLE-ISSUE GROUPS

Human Cloning Foundation
An organization advocating an individual's right to clone himself, as well as a clone's right to be treated just like any other human being.

Americans for Free Choice in Medicine
Intrepid individuals staving off the Clinton Administration's repeated attempts at socializing health care.

Committee for the Moral Defense of Microsoft
Microsoft's legal battles may be over, but the ideological war for economic freedom has only just begun. It's time that we gave a moral defense of achievement. As for the allegations of illegal doings on the part of Microsoft, the Frequently-Asked-Questions section will shed some light on the matters.

First Electronic Church of America
This "church" is actually a set of eccentric employees of some internet company called WebStation One. What I really appreciate is their Saints page, which gives much-deserved praise to Howard Hughes, Bill Gates, Thomas Edison, and Ayn Rand. I also enjoyed the "sermon" criticizing welfare.

FAVORITE SINGLE-ISSUE SITES

Abortion Is Pro-Life
Is a fetus the same thing as a baby? Does a fetus have rights? Why or why not? Great Frequently-asked-Questions section!

Campaign Against Servitude
Colin Powell's volunteerism summit is about happiness, humanitarianism, and compassion, right? Wrong! That's just what he wants you to think. Find out why "volunteerism" isn't about caring, and why, if we really want to improve the plight of young children, we must teach them the virtues of achievement and individualism.

Campaign Finance Reform: A Rational Solution
We've all heard of how we need to reform campaign financing, since a "contribution" can be construed as bribery on the part of special interest groups. What then, should be done? Here's the best answer yet.

Diversity & Multiculturalism: The New Racism
Whaaaaa?!!. Pardon me? How can multiculturalism be racist? Well, to find the answer, you may want to check out the web site.

Save the Earth--From the Environmentalists
Don't all scientists accept global warming as fact? Was the Unabomber a crusader for the ecosystem? Does the Sierra Club want to protect nature for humans or from humans? The shocking answers are found here! Yes, this site is so good, I had to list it here twice.

Committee for the Moral Defense of Microsoft
Highly readable. Not only are they enlightening, but they're entertaining too. Reading them makes me feel good, because it reminds me that there are still people in this world who believe in achievement.

Keep Elian Free
Sadly, Elian was not kept free. Though he has been shipped back to the slave state of Cuba and into Castro's clutches, the debate on open immigration is far from over.

Gun Control and the Right to Self-Defense
Will more federal regulations keep guns out of the hands of criminals? Does the right to bear arms come from the Second Amendment? Again, a great frequently-asked questions section by Mark Da Cunha.

The Microsoft Defense Site
Even though most of the editorials are from 1998, they're still really good, and they still eloquently put into perspective what the lawsuit was really about.

Objective Education
How to raise your child to become an independently-thinking, independently-functioning adult. Here, you can read about the trailblazing methods of Maria Montessori, Marva Collins, and Jaime Escalante.

Philosophy: The Integrating Science
An online guide to the world's most famous philosophers--Aristotle, St. Thomas Aquinas, Friedrich Nietzsche, Immanuel Kant, Heraclitus, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Plato, and Ayn Rand.

Reason Against Crime
What causes people to steal, cheat, and murder? Is it selfishness? . . . Or something far more sinister? . . .

Religion vs. Morality
Here, the Objectivists take on the Religious Right in a no-holds-barred grudge match. Issues discussed are abortion, assisted suicide, evolution, the foundations of capitalism, certainty, the ethics of sex, and the commercialization of Christmas. Especially mind-blowing are the quotations from Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, and John Adams. It turns out that the Founding Fathers were not theists, but deists, meaning that they believed that God made the world, and then left humans alone to do whatever they wanted without any reward or punishment from Him. Great site!
