This tragedy will no
doubt go down as the worst school shooting that has ever occurred on
U.S. soil. The families, friends, and teachers of the 13 victims
along with the rest of us are asking why such an event was necessary.
But we will never really know since the two killers Eric Harris and
Dylan Klebold planned this as a suicide mission. I do not see these
two cowards as victims--their solution to all of the teasing and
harassment that they endured in high school was not one of justice.
Countless other students are harassed everyday whether it is because
of their physical appearance, group of friends, race, sexual
orientation, or whatever it may be that another person doesn't like.
These students don't go marching into their school to
seek revenge by killing the people that hold hate or predjudice
against them (with the exception of the previous school shootings)!
So who do we blame? Do we blame
the schools for not punishing the harassers enough? Do we blame the
parents and how they have "brought up" their children? Do we blame
the gun sellers--ordinary people out to make money like most other
Americans? All of these people are easy scapegoats but I honestly
don't think that any of them are to blame. America is failing where
Christian living is concerned. The value of life isn't as important
as it used to be. Right now I see America as a plane taking a nose
dive towards the ground. Hopefully this incident will affect us
enough to make us want to turn our lives around.
