The Magic Circle: A Pre-Raphaelite Gallery

This page features some of the most beautiful art ever created. The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood was a group of 19th century artists who rebelled from the style of painting of their day and created a new artistic style using biblical, mythical, and natural imagery as the subjects of their paintings. Their art uses themes similar to the great Italian artists before Raphael (thus the name, Pre-Raphaelite). Although they received great criticism from their peers the Pre-Raphaelite artists have gained respect from art-lovers for generations.

The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood only lasted for a few years, but many 19th and early 20th century artists (like John William Waterhouse and Adolphe-William Bougeuereau) were inspired by them and their art is still very popular today.

I have chosen my favorite Pre-Raphaelite paintings to display on this page. I hope you enjoy the beauty and technical expertise displayed in these gorgeous works.
