Dedicated his life

Sifu Jurgens has dedicated his life to studying and teaching the art of Shaolin Temple Kung Fu. Having started at a young age, Sifu Jurgens furthered his knowledge with many Chinese masters overseas.  Over the past few years, he has been studying under the most qualified Shaolin Fighting Monk outside of China, Master Shi Yan Ming.

Master Ming is a 34th generation Shaolin Fighting Monk, who, at the age of five, was raised in the Shaolin Temple in China.  There he studied both the external and internal Shaolin Temple Kung Fu.  In later years, Master Ming opened the Shaolin Temple USA in New York, where he still teaches today. Sifu Jurgens is dedicated to spreading the knowledge of the authentic Shaolin Kung Fu throughout South Africa.

Coach of the National Kung-Fu Team

As a coach of the national Kung-Fu Team, he focuses on not only preparing the team for selective intentional tournaments but he also teaches the team members the essence of this spectacular art form. Sifu Jurgens has been part of the official National Kung-Fu team since 1992 and a coach since 1996.  During a visit to China in 1997, where he was personally invited to attend the Zhen Zhou Wushu Festival in the province of Henhan in China, he won the world title in the heavyweight knockdown-fighting category. This year he will again return to this festival. This time, however, it will be as coach of the National Team.

Sifu Jurgens, also known as 35th generation Shaolin Fighting Monk, Shi Hung Tung, believes that one should strive to earn a place among the masters with one's character and not with the amount of trophies one has. This is advice he feels will beneficial martial artists. Sifu Jurgens does not teach students to merely climb into a ring and fight.  He believes their growth must be complete in all aspects.   Making sure they are growing in all areas of their day-to-day lives. To assist Sifu Jurgens in teaching the authentic Shaolin Temple Kung-Fu as close to how it is taught in the temple in China he decided to build a replica of the temple's training areas on his property in Roodepoort. This school - the Shaolin Kung Fu and Tai Chi Centre - allows students the opportunity of discovering what it would be like to be a Shaolin Fighting Monk training at the temple in China.
