January 14, 2001
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
[Opening Credits]
Charlie Watkins – Live from the First Union Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, this is Sunday Night Shockwave. Hello again, everyone. I’m Charlie Watkins and with me as always is Terry Hogan. And tonight, we begin the road to 2001.
Terry Hogan – That’s right, Charlie. The new Heavyweight Champion Lawrence Rhodes takes on the Quasar Champion Nikita Morosov. The tag and Spotlight titles are on the line.
Charlie Watkins – And don’t forget about our huge six-man tag.
Terry Hogan – But first, we’re going to hear from the new champ himself.
[The lights dim as the music from a 2001: A Space Odyssey echoes around the arena. The crowd hush as some well placed pyrotechnics go off around the entrance. At that moment a spotlight highlights Ebony as she steps out from the back. She is again resplendent in a tight white lycra top, a pair of well worn Levi 501 Jeans and grey snakeskin boots. She holds aloft the SWL Heavyweight Championship belt and forcefully thrusts it out for all to see. At that moment tickertape begins to fall from the arena ceiling. Ebony steps forward and begins to walk slowly towards the ring. Red, white and blue tickertape continues to fall ... as from the back comes two majorette girls, twirling batons as they walk. The tickertape falls, the music plays as the majorettes follow Ebony towards the ring. Then ... from the back steps forward another two majorettes. They too are twirling batons and begin to follow the procession down to the ring. The tickertape continues to fall, the music plays as from the back ... a group of 5 red, white and blue bikini clad cheerleaders emerge. They stand in a line and proceed to shake their pom-poms.]
Charlie Watkins – What do you call this?
Terry Hogan – I guess this is how they celebrate in the Luscious One’s circle.
Charlie Watkins – I call it a glorified T&A exhibition. Where is the champ anyway?
[The cheerleaders give out their biggest cheesiest grins for the camera ... then fall into line and join the march down to the ring. At that moment Ebony begins to climb the steel steps and again holding the Championship belt above her head, pauses as if showing the world. She then climbs through the ropes and produces a mic from her back pocket. She lays the Championship belt down in the middle of the ring as the music fades away.]
EBONY: Well ... they said it couldn't be done ... but you all saw it ... so without further ado, Ladies and Gentlemen ... boys and sweet innocent young girls ... may I introduce to you the NEW... STARS WRESTLING LEAGUE HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION ... 'LUSCIOUS' LAWRENCE RHODES.
[There is a bit of crowd indifference as Release Yo'delf (Prodigy mix) plays around the arena. 'Luscious' Lawrence Rhodes steps out from the back. He wears a light brown coloured leather snakeskin suit with matching shoes. He smiles from ear to ear .. and indicates the belt around his waist. He then points to the ring, smiles a bit more and heads down the aisle. The cheerleaders form a guard of honour ... as the majorettes continue to twirl their batons. Rhodes goes to slap a few hands in the crowd but doesnt get much of a response. As he climbs the steel steps, Rhodes pauses to look out into the crowd. He then ducks under the ropes and backs into the ring.]
EBONY: So come on then, hands up all you guys and gals [she points into the crowd] out there that thought Johnny the Spades would beat Lawrence Rhodes. Ah huh ... well let me put it like this ... all you dim-witted, brainwashed, two inch pieces of trash can take those raised hands ... [there is a chorus of crowd boos] and ...
[At that moment Lawrence Rhodes steps forward and puts his hand over Ebony’s mouth. He indicates that he wants to speak. Ebony lowers the mic and seems to be pointing at herself. The camera picks up Rhodes smiling as he moves to kiss her on both checks before pulling away with the mic in his hand. Rhodes seems to clear his throat ... ]
RHODES: Ladies and Gentlemen ... it I may interject. What my business manager was trying to say was ... that not many of you thought I could do it. Am I right??? [Rhodes smile] You see, for too long Johnny Spades had been running around saying he was ... er, the man ... and the likes of Vindicator [good crowd response] ... Billy Rock [better crowd response] and moi .. [indifference] were not good enough to beat him. Well John, I know how this business works and I know how you work ... and for what its worth ... Id like to thank you for the opportunity I had to face you ... and for the gracious words that you spoke after I had pinned you to become the new champion.
[At that moment Ebony steps forward, and gets into the face of Rhodes. She grabs the mic and pulls it away from him, turning as she does.]
EBONY: Well ... I wasnt quite gonna use those words but as they say round these here parts ... hey ho. [Ebony moves towards one side of the ring, but then turns quite sharply to face Rhodes.] Actually, I wasnt gonna use those words at all ... you see I dont quite see it like that. [Ebony poses with one arm resting on her hip as she talks] You see Lawrence, Johnny the Spade took your thunder. You beat him .. [Ebony cocks her head slightly] quite easily in my opinion, but still he gets the plaudits, the congratulations ... and for doing what. You see ... Johnny the Spades was another one of those egotistical, yellowbellied ... got all the chat champions, who say one thing and does .. [Ebony cocks her head again] another. He ran from you for months, whining about how he beat you for this .. for that ... [Ebony now puts her hand out in front of her] and for any other that was going spare. But now he's gone ... the same way as Vindicator [good crowd response] and Billy Rock [even better crowd response.] And that leaves you as the top dog, numero uno ... bloody daddy big b*ll*!$.
[At this point Rhodes steps towards Ebony. He continues to wear a rather cheesy grin ... but quickly maneuvers the microphone from her grasp.]
RHODES: Maybe I should thank you for that last statement ... but [still smiling] I dont think these good people here ... [Rhodes points out into the crowd] actually believe you. [Rhodes turns to address the arena] But ladies and gentlemen .. cometh a new millenium .. cometh a new man. I've done some things that I aint proud of. But I'm in a position now to be the best damn wrestler I can be ... and to take the SWL into a new millenium, under a banner of guile, guts .. personality and work ethics.
[As the majorettes continue to twirl their batons Ebony steps towards Rhodes once again. She indicates that he should hand her the mic ... which after a slight hesitation he does.]
EBONY: Lawrence .. whateva ... u hear me whateva. [Ebony now turns to address the arena.] But tonight ... live and in technicolor the real millenium man ...your very own SWL Heavyweight Champion ... daddy big b*ll*!$ ... 'Luscious' Lawrence Rhodes, defends the belt against Russia's answer to Herman Munster ... Nikita Morosov. It's champion against champion ... European against European ... but Morosov, thats where the similarity STOPS. You can kid all the people sum of tha time ... you can kid sum of the people all of tha time ... but you cant kid 'Luscious' Lawrence Rhodes ... not ever. You see Morosov your just another one of the guys in the SWL that cant cut it. [Ebony turns her nose up as she carries on speaking] Guys like ... MOB Squad, Kevin Steele ... John Steele, Janus ... Big D, Ty Shun Ho. You make me laugh if you think you can win this belt off of Lawrence. In fact, not on your best days could you possibly live with such a man.
[The camera picks on a close up shot of Ebony looking lovingly as Rhodes, as he squirms in his snakeskin pants.]
EBONY: So Morosov ... I'll tell you and all those wannabees back there ... prepare to be in awe ... as Lawrence Rhodes takes this federation to heights you could only dream of.
[Ebony drops the mic as the camera shows Lawrence Rhodes stood in the ring shaking his head.]

John Steele vs. Not Applicable
SWL Spotlight Title Match
Anna Dea – The following contest, scheduled for one fall, is for the SWL Spotlight Championship! Introducing first, weighing in at 128 kilograms, Not Applicable!
[Bawitdaba by Kid Rock begins to play through out the arena and the fans immediately begin to boo harshly. After about 5 seconds of music Not Applicable comes out of the entrance area and heads to the ring area. He looks neither left nor right but straight ahead. He is wearing a pair of ripped up jeans, a black shirt that fails to hide his well muscled upper body. On his face is a simple black mask that conceals his true identity. When he rolls into the ring he looks at the referee and shakes his head when the referee attempts to check him and he can be overheard saying that the rules don’t apply to him and to back the hell off. He goes to a neutral corner and awaits the bell.]
Anna Dea – His opponent, ["Open your Eyes" by Guano Apes starts to play over the PA system.] hailing from Chicago, Illinois, and weighing in at 263 pounds, the SWL Spotlight Champion… here is… JOHN STEEEEELE!!!
[Steele parts the curtain to a roof-shaking ovation. He is wearing his usual ripped blue tights, along with a black leather jacket with the Statue of Liberty printed on the back. He is wearing his American flag bandana, and has a look of sheer intensity etched into his face. He makes his way down to the ring fairly slowly, slapping some high fives with the fans as he goes. He pauses to give his bandana to a young fan in the front row, before rolling into the ring. He removes the leather jacket, unstraps the Spotlight Title from his waist, and starts stretching in the corner, anxiously awaiting the opening bell.]
Charlie Watkins – These two have a long history together,
Terry Hogan – Yeah, and it’s normally centered on that belt right there.
[The bell rings and N/A sucker punches Steele. N/A backs Steele into the corner and wallops him with several viscous right hands. He whips Steele to the opposite corner and comes charging in. Steele gets a foot up into his face and explodes out of the corner with a lariat.]
Charlie Watkins – These two guys are really pouring it on.
Terry Hogan – That belt is a stepping stone to greatness in the SWL. Everyone wants it.
[Steele whips N/A into the ropes and hits a powerslam. Steele comes off the ropes and drops an elbow. Steele goes for a pin but only gets one and a half. N/A gets up groggily and stumbles into the ropes. Steele charges and N/A backdrops him over the top to the outside.]
Charlie Watkins – That was a mistake on Steele’s part.

N/A climbs to the turnbuckle and the crowd comes alive. Steele lays prone and N/A drops a falling headbutt right into his rib cage.]

Terry Hogan – I think he smells blood.
[N/A picks Steele up and delivers a gut-buster. N/A goes for a pin and gets two. N/A picks Steele up and whips him into the ropes. Steele ducks N/A’s clothesline and comes back with a flying body tackle. Both men are down.]
Terry Hogan – They’re both ripe for the pickings now.
[Both men get up slowly. N/A whips Steele into the ropes and boots him in the midsection. N/A quickly goes for the Application. Steele senses it and pushes N/A off of him. N/A turns around and walks into the spinning backbreaker.]
Charlie Watkins – Liberty!
[Steele makes the pin…1…2…3!!!]
Anna Dea – Here is your winner and still SWL Spotlight Champion, John Steele!
Charlie Watkins – What a war for the Spotlight Belt!
Terry Hogan – This rivalry just keeps building and getting better all the time.
Dark Justice vs. Xtreme Velocity
SWL Tag Team Title Match
Anna Dea – The following contest, scheduled for one fall, is for the SWL Tag Team Championship! Introducing first, the challengers, at a total combined weight of 471 pounds, Richard Starr and Jason Blade, Xtreme Velocity!
[The sound system plays "Radar Rider" by Riggs as Jason Blade and Richard Starr walk up the ramp. Both men are wearing blue wrestling pants with a red lightning bolt running down the left leg. On each left leg is the following word, also in red: WOR. Starr is 6'1" and fairly muscular, Blade is 6"4" and fit but thin. The two men touch knuckles, then race to the ring. Starr slides under the bottom rope, Blade jumps to the ring apron and flips over the top rope. They go to opposite corners and stand on the second rope.]
Anna Dea – Their opponents, at a total combined weight of 565 pounds, the SWL Tag Team Champions, Kevin Steele and MOB Squad, Dark Justice!
[The lights in the house die down, and go black, and several blue spotlights light the stage area. Smoke begins to pour from the grating, filling the floor from the entrance door, across the stage, and all around the ring. Softly at first, 'Superbeast' by Rob Zombie begins to filter into the arena, and then slowly get louder and louder, until the very walls are shaking with the beat. As the music begin to pick up, in time, several firebombs go off on either side of the entrance, and then, as the heavy guitars kick in, a huge blast of flame erupts out of the center of the stage. Moments later, MOB Squad and Kevin Steele, accompanied by Melina Vantadar, walk out to several more firebombs exploding on either side of the trio. Melina steps forward as the last firebomb goes off, and Kevin Steele and MOB Squad follow her down to the ring in silence, slapping at a few of the fans who dare to reach their hands out. As they crawl into the ring, the music kicks in really hard, and three rings of firebombs chase each other around the ring twice, and the lights come up, and the music dies off. Steele and MOB Squad hold their belts high before handing them to Melina. She takes the belts and the trademark leather jackets, and moves to ringside, while MOB Squad and Kevin Steele await their opponents in the ring.]
Charlie Watkins – This team of MOB Squad and Kevin Steele have really found their niche in the tag team division. They work together like they’ve been a team for years.
Terry Hogan – Yeah, but you can’t count out the two young lions on the opposite side of the ring. They’ve surprised a lot of people with how far they’ve come in a few short weeks.
[The bell rings and Starr and MOB Squad start the match. MOB Squad looks down at Starr before clubbing him in the side of the head. MOB Squad applies an arm wrench and hits a short-arm clothesline. MOB Squad shoots Starr into the ropes and military presses him. MOB Squad holds Starr up for a while before dropping him on his shoulder and giving him a snap powerslam. MOB Squad tags in Kevin Steele.]
Charlie Watkins – That was a nice move by MOB Squad.
Terry Hogan – Believe it or not, I think teaming with Kevin Steele is bringing out the best in him.
[Steele lifts up Starr to bodyslam him when Starr counters with a small package out of nowhere. Steele kicks out at two, surprised. Starr tags in Blade, who circles Steele. Steele makes a move for Blade and Blade sidesteps him, sweeping his legs out. Blade runs into the ropes as Steele is getting up and hits a flying calf kick. Steele holds his mouth and quickly tags out to MOB Squad.]
Charlie Watkins – I think Steele wasn’t ready for that lightning-like speed.
Terry Hogan – Steele’s gotta be careful picking dance partners. The young ones’ll wear ya out.
[MOB Squad enters the ring and overpowers Blade into the corner. He whips Blade into the other corner and catches him with a running kneelift. Starr enters the ring, but is cut off by Kevin Steele. All for men brawl and the referee loses control. In the confusion, Starr receives the Screwdriver from MOB Squad. Blade leaps off the top rope with a moonsault.]
Charlie Watkins – We’re back to one on one.
Terry Hogan – I think the referee has lost all hope of controlling these four guys.
[MOB Squad grabs Blade from behind and delivers a reverse DDT drop. Kevin Steele climbs the turnbuckle. MOB Squad delivers the Michinoku Driver and Kevin Steele flies off the top rope with a flying headbutt.]
Charlie Watkins – Hand of Justice!

Charlie Watkins – And the new champs look impressive in their first title defense.

[Soundgarden’s "Black Hole Sun" plays as the Ghost From Nowhere makes his way to the ring.]
Charlie Watkins – As Justin Arcola said on Weekend Riot, this match has the potential to be a total cluster you-know-what.
Terry Hogan – I’ll say. I wonder who it was that thought that Janus and the Ghost would get along.
[The bell rings and Jett Jones and Big D start the match. Jones circles Big D and trips his leg out. He mounts Big D on the mat and begins to punch him repeatedly. Big D throws Jones over and clubs his forehead with massive shots, dazing him. Jones gets up and Big D reels back for a big clothesline. Jones ducks it and superkicks Big D, knocking him back into his corner. Janus tags himself in.]
Terry Hogan – This should be good.
Charlie Watkins – Almost 600 pounds of beef in the ring.
[Janus and Jones square off. They tie up and Janus executes an arm wrench. Janus pounds on the shoulder of Jones with his free hand until Jones is driven to his knees. Janus tightens up on the hold and Jones tries to get to his feet. Jones swings a roundhouse kick at Janus. Janus catches it and delivers a capture suplex. Janus doesn’t capitalize, but instead taunts Jones. Jones points at Janus and tags in Arcola.]
Charlie Watkins – Now it may get interesting.
Terry Hogan – I have a feeling Jones will want to get back at Janus at some point in this match.
[Arcola and Janus lock up. Janus puts on a side headlock and Arcola shoots him into the ropes. Arcola hits Janus with a scissors sweep and wrenches on Janus’ leg. Janus powers out and Arcola shoots himself into the ropes. Janus goes to military press Arcola but Arcola goes over the top and behind Janus. Arcola hooks Janus into a German Suplex. Arcola tags in Ty Shun Ho and bodyslams Janus. Ho slingshots over the ropes with a senton splash.]
Charlie Watkins – There’s that teamwork that made them famous.
[Ty Shun Ho backs Janus into the corner and hits him with several hard knife-edge chops. Janus shakes them off and lifts Ho into a Manhattan Drop. Ho is stunned and Janus hooks him into a belly-to-belly suplex. Janus tags out to the Ghost.]
Charlie Watkins – Now the two high-flyers square off.
[Ghost whips Ty Shun Ho into the ropes and hits a hurricanrana. He stays on top and hooks the legs, going for a pin. At the count of two, Ho rolls Ghost backward in a sunset flip position. Ghost rolls sideways at two, pinning The Dragon. Ho slides out and counters with a bridge pin. Ghost kicks out at two. Ghost goes for a hip toss. Ho blocks it and drapes a leg over the arm of Ghost. He does a back flip and lands behind Ghost, free of the hold. Ho hits Ghost with a Japanese Arm Drag and the crowd applauds.]
Terry Hogan – That was a beautiful exchange.
[Ghost tags out to Big D and Ty Shun Ho hits him in the chest with a snap round house kick. Big D drops to his knees and doubles over. Ho sprints to the ropes and bounces off with a dropkick to the head of Big D. Ho goes for a pin and Big D powers out at two. Big D stands up and Ho tags in Arcola. Charlie Watkins – Wait a minute, ref! There was no tag there!
Terry Hogan – He made the tag. You heard it just fine.
[The referee turns around to see Janus making the cover on Jones. Arcola enters the ring and breaks up the count at two. Ghost enters and goes after Arcola. Arcola battles with the Ghost as Ho dumps Janus out of the ring with a spinning heel kick. Arcola signals to Ho and Ho climbs the turnbuckle. Arcola whips Ghost into the ropes and lifts him into a flapjack position. On the way down, Ho flies off and nails Ghost in the head with a missile dropkick. Ghost’s body crumples as he hits the mat. [The prodigy mix of Methodmans 'Release Yo'delf echoes around the arena. A yellowish hue lights the entrance as Ebony steps out from the back. She stands surveying the crowd, and is grinning from ear to ear. 'Luscious' Lawrence Rhodes steps out from the back. Rhodes has on a pair of brown snake skin spandex jodpurs and matching snakeskin boots. He stands behind Ebony and the camera picks up a certain look of intensity on his face. As the pair begin the walk towards the ring, the five Cheerleaders emerge from the back. They continue to wave their rather large pom-poms as they cavort around in their red, white and blue little numbers. The camera catches Rhodes shaking his head, as he continues to move towards the ring. Rhodes surveys the crowd as he goes. Ebony climbs the steel steps, closely followed by Lawrence Rhodes who holds the ropes open for her to enter. He quickly follows ... then backs into the corner as Ebony holds the belt aloft.]
Charlie Watkins – You couldn’t have asked for a tougher opponent for Rhodes to have his first title defense against.
Terry Hogan – Absolutely. Rhodes better watch himself or he’ll be the shortest-lived champion in SWL history.
[The bell rings and Morosov and Rhodes circle each other in the center of the ring. They tie up and Morosov puts on a top wrist lock. Rhodes tries to fight against the pressure, but is driven to his knees. Morosov soccer kicks him in the ribs and Rhodes goes down to all fours. Charlie Watkins – It’s Jett Jones!
Terry Hogan – What’s he doing here?
[Jett Jones delivers the Thriller to Morosov on the floor and rolls him back into the ring. Rhodes gives Morosov One For the Ladies and Jett Jones revives the referee. Rhodes makes the pin and the referee counts Morosov’s shoulder’s down…1…2…3!!!]
