photos from Europe, summer and fall, 2001 page one
Brighton
This is the West Pier in Brighton. It was abandoned a few years ago when part of the pier collapsed. The beach is really nice, although it's not sand but smooth stones.
Portsmouth/Southsea
There wasn't a lot to do in Southsea, so we checked out the little castle they have there. Quite plain, but the "secret" passages were fun. Here's a photo looking into the moat from the passage.
Isle of Wight
We had gorgeous weather on the Isle of Wight, so we walked along the top of the chalk cliffs on our first day. The second day we spent on the beach just below.
Stonehenge
Next stop was Salisbury, a quick bus ride to Stonehenge. It wasn't as big as we expected, but that didn't diminish the grandeur.
Stirling
Our favourite hostel was in Stirling, which made our few days there super fun. This photo is taken from the top of the Wallace Monument, and it's looking out upon where "The Battle of Stirling Bridge" was held between William "Braveheart" Wallace and the English. The Scots won of course :)
York
We took a day trip to York in August, from Edinburgh. It was a completely amazing city, and we discussed moving there. This photo is of part of the city walls, with the top of the York Minster (cathedral) peeking out. Highly recommended.
In a pub in York
