Evaluation
#1: (out of fifteen possible points)
2) Ranking:
This search engine does not link sites according to their popularity. There are links to this link from other pages that are very helpful.
3) Display:
The description lengh is short and one of the shortest of the five search engines I reviewed but accurate. It shows the last time each page has been updated and shows ten results at a time. It doesn't take long to load so the ten sites is perfect.

#2: (out of fifteen possible points)
1) Crawling:
There 55 million pages already indexed, with three million pages are crawled a day. The engine is able then to update listings in one to three weeks. The depth of a search is unlimited. There is no support for frames or image maps. It will enter password protected sites given the appropriate information, and can detect the popularity of links to a site. Excite does not say what the last time a site has been updated and the crawling is also unable to do this.
2) Ranking:
Exixite has many links to it from other pages and is easy to access. It will only search from the words you give it and not from keywords that relate to the subject.
3) Display:
Excite creates descriptions up to 365 words. The date last modified is not provided, so we are able to tell the freshness of postings at any site indexed by that engine. Excite has the larest number of possibilities to the number of results that can be displayed at a time, the possibilities include 10, 20, 30, 40, or 50 results per page.

2) Ranking:
This search engine does not rank sites according to link popularity, it ranks sites according to how much they identify with the keywords involved in the search. It is case sensitive, and has a few links from other pages.
3) Display:
Lycos has descriptions that aren't too long but give enough information that you shouldn't end up with a page that you really don't want. It is recently updated, as it would probably have to be in order to keep up in the compitition with the other search engines, however, it isn't kept up quite as well as some others. There are approximately ten to results given at a time as mentioned before.

#4: (out of fifteen possible points)
HotBot is the second largest search engine I have evaluated. It has 110 million pages indexed and up to 10 million added each day. Maintained well, new listings happen here between one day and two weeks. There is no limit to the depth of indexing beyond the submitted page. HotBot does not support frames, image maps, and it will not enter a password protected site. Depending on how often the link will be crawled through depends on the popularity of the site.
2) Ranking:
Ranking a site in this search engine does not depend on how popular a site is. It is case sensitive in the Advanced Search option.
3) Display:
The description length is limited at 249 words making it so that the it doesn't give you much information. The date of when it was last modified is usually displayed, so you always know how fresh the site is. The number of results displayed on a page can be changed from the default ten in the Advanced search.

#5: (out of fifteen possible points)
1) Crawling:
Webcrawler is one of the smallest search engines. It has only 2 million pages indexed. It is well maintained and usually updated at least once a week. It can take up to six weeks for a submitted page to be indexed. There are no frame supports but there are supports for image maps. This engine will not enter into password protected sites even with the correct information. This link is fairly popular.
2) Ranking:
This engine is case sensitive, and there are many links from other pages to this page.
3) Display:
The description averages between 170-240 words in length. The date of last modification is provided. The number of results that appear on the page can range between the numbers 20, 25, or 50.
