Fun things to do at a drive-thru

Fun things to do at a drive-thru
 1. Drive through the drive-thru in reverse and let your passenger order.
 2. Ask prices of everything on the menu and then order something that you did not ask the price for.
 3. Pretend like your window is broken. Tell the employee this. Order with your door open, pay with
your door open. Roll down window and take food through the window.
 4. Go to McDonald's and demand a big breakfast at 11:30 at night. Put up a fight.
 5. Pay for a large order in pennies and nickels unwrapped.
 6. Order in another language. Be careful what neighborhood you are in.
 7. When asked if they can take your order, tell them you are just window shopping and drive on.
 8. Laugh sadistically when asked if you would like ketchup.
 9. Ask how they fit into that little box.
10. If they make you wait, make them wait when they come back on.
11. Demand to speak to the manager. When he comes on, complain that you did not like the way the
employee said "May I take your order?"
12. When asked if they can take your order say "Why, can I take yours?"
13. If they ask you to wait, order anyway and keep doing it till they yell at you.
14. Pretend like your car broke down. Ask for assistance in moving it. When they come out, drive away.
15. Tell them you have to use the bathroom.
16. Order a cup of water and two napkins. That's it.
17. Don't order when they come on. Just sit there. If a line forms behind you, get out of the car
   and cause a scene.
18. When they hand you your food, hand them a bag back with all the trash from your car in it.
19. Just stare at them when you pay and get your food. Don't break your stare.
20. Honk your horn the whole way through the line.

Won't Talk
A lady goes into a pet store one day.

"I'm really lonely," she says to the clerk. "I need a pet to keep me company."

"Well," replies the clerk. "How about this nice parrot? He'll talk to you."

"Hey, that's great." She likes the idea and she buys the parrot and takes him home.

Next day: Same lady comes back to the pet store.

"You know, that parrot isn't talking to me yet," she says.

"Hmmm, let's see," says the clerk. "I know! You buy this little ladder for his cage.

He'll climb the ladder...and then he'll talk."

"OK." So off she goes with a newly purchased ladder.

Next day: Same lady comes back to the pet store.

"Hey, that parrot still hasn't said a word," she says to the pet store clerk.

He thinks a minute. "How about this little mirror?" he says.

"You hang it at the top of the ladder. The parrot will climb the ladder, look in the

mirror and then he'll talk to you."

"OK," she says, and buys the little mirror, and goes home.

But the next day that same lady is back in the shop.

"Well, I'm getting a bit discouraged," she says. "That parrot STILL won't talk to me."

The clerk scratches his head. "Let me think....AHA! Try this bell.

You hang it over the mirror. That parrot will climb the ladder, look in the mirror,

ring the bell, and then he will surely talk to you!"

"Well, all right, I'll give it a try," says the lady. And she buys the bell and takes

it home.

The next day the same lady comes back to the pet shop, and she is mightily distressed.

"What's wrong?" asks the clerk.

"My parrot...well, he died," was the quiet reply.

"Oh no! I'm so sorry for your loss!" exclaimed the clerk. "But I have to ask you, did

the parrot ever say anything to you?"

"Oh yes, he said one thing, right before he died," she replied.

"Well, what did he say?" asked the clerk.

The lady replies: "He said, 'DOESN'T THAT STORE CARRY ANY FOOD?!!?'"

The Three-Legged Chicken
A man was driving along a rural road one day when he saw a three-legged chicken.

Amazed, he turned off the road and drove down a long driveway to the nearest farmhouse.

There he saw a man in the yard and dozens of three-legged chickens.

He called out to the farmer "How did you get all these three-legged chickens?"

The farmer replied, "I breed 'em. Ya see it's me, my wife and my son living here and we

all like the drumstick. Since a chicken only has two legs, I started breeding this

three legged variety so we could all eat our favorite piece."

"That's amazing!" said the driver "How do they taste?"

"Don't rightly know, ain't never been able to catch one."

There were these two snake buddies slithering along through the grass.

One snake asked his friend: "Thay, are we poisonous?"

His friend answered: "Yes, very. Why do you ask?"

And the first snake explained: "I jutht bit my tongue."

Dear Dogs and Cats,

When I say to move, it means to go someplace else, not switch positions with each other
so there are still two of you in the way.

The dishes with the paw print are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine
and contain my food. Please note, placing a paw print in the middle of my plate and
food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that
aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.

The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack. Beating me to the
bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn't help, because I fall faster than you can run.

I cannot buy anything bigger than a king size bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not
think I will continue to sleep on the couch to ensure your comfort. Look at videos of
dogs and cats sleeping, they can actually curl up in a ball. It is not necessary to
sleep perpendicular to each other stretched out to the fullest extent possible. I also
know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out the other end to
maximize space used is nothing but sarcasm.

My compact discs are not miniature Frisbees.

For the last time, there is not a secret exit from the bathroom. If by some miracle I
beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, try
to turn the knob, or get your paw under the edge and try to pull the door open. When I
exit this room, I will come out the the same door I entered. In addition, I have been
using bathrooms for years. Canine attendance has never been necessary.

The proper order is kiss me, then go smell the other dogs' butt. I cannot stress this
enough. It would be such a simple change for you.

In return for your following these simple rules, I have posted the following message on
our front door:

Rules for Non-Pet Owners Who Visit and Like to Complain About Our Pets:

1. They live here. You don't.

2. If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture.

3. I like my pet a lot better than I like most people.

4. To you, it's an animal.
To me, he/she is an adopted son/daughter who is short, hairy, walks on all fours and
doesn't speak clearly.

5. Dogs and cats are better than kids.
They eat less, don't ask for money all the time, are easier to train, usually come
when called, never drive your car, don't hang out with drug-using friends, don't smoke
or drink, don't worry about buying the latest fashions, don't wear your clothes, don't
need a gazillion dollars for college, and if they get pregnant, you can sell the
results.

Parrot on a String
This guy goes to a pet shop to buy a parrot.

He sees one on a perch with a red string tied to its left leg and a green string

tied to it's right leg.

He asks the owner the significance of the strings.

"Well, this is a highly trained parrot. If you pull the red string he speaks French;

if you pull the green string he speaks German," replies the shop keeper.

"And what happens if I pull both the strings?" our curious shopper inquires.

"I fall off my perch you goober!!" screeches the parrot.

Training Your Puppy
Puppy owners should get a newspaper and roll it up very tight. Secure it with a rubber

band and leave it on the coffee table.

Then, when the puppy piddles in the house, chews up a slipper or does anything he's not

supposed to do, simply take the newspaper and bang it on the top of YOUR head very hard

while repeating...

"I should have been watching the puppy!"

"I should have been watching the puppy!"

Disastrous Meal
The newly-married husband came home from the office to find his young wife in floods of tears.

"Darling, whatever is the matter?" he asks.

"Sweetheart," she sobs, "the most terrible thing has happened! I cooked my very first Beef

Bourguignon for you. I got it out the oven to season it, and the phone rang.

When I came back from answering the

phone," she sobbed again "I found that the cat had eaten it!"

"Don't worry, darling," said her husband. "Don't cry. we'll get a new cat in the morning."

The Talking Dog
This guy sees a sign in front of a house "Talking Dog for Sale." He rings the bell and the

owner tells him the dog is in the back yard. The guy goes into the back yard and sees a

mutt sitting there.

"You talk?" he asks.

"Yep," the mutt replies.

"So, what's your story?"

The mutt looks up and says "Well, I discovered this gift pretty young and I wanted to

help the government, so I told the CIA about my gift, and in no time they had me jetting

from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders, cause no one

figured a dog would be eavesdropping.

I was one of their most valuable spies eight years running. The jetting around really

tired me out, and I knew I wasn't getting any younger and I wanted to settle down.

So I signed up for a job at the airport to do some undercover security work, mostly

wandering near suspicious characters and listening in.

I uncovered some incredible dealings there and was awarded a

batch of medals. Had a wife, a mess of puppies, and now I'm just retired."

The guy is amazed. He goes back in and asks the owner what he wants for the dog.

The owner says "Ten dollars."

The guy says he'll buy him but asks the owner,

"This dog is amazing. Why on earth are you selling him?"

The owner replies, "He's such a liar."

Thanks, George in Montgomery

"No, We don't carry duck food."

The next day the duck went to the same store and asked, "Hey! Ya got any duck food?"

The manager said, "No, I told you yesterday, we don't have any duck food."

The next day the duck went to the same store and asked, "Hey! Ya got any duck food?"

The manager said, "Listen! We don't have ANY duck food! And if you come in here again

and ask for duck food, I'll nail your feet to the floor!!"

The next day the duck returned again and asked, "Hey! Ya got any nails?"

The manager said, "No."

So the duck asked, "Ya got any duck food?"

The Doggy Dictionary
LEASH: A strap which attaches to your collar, enabling you to lead your person where you
want him/her to go.

DOG BED: Any soft, clean surface, such as the white bedspread in the guest room or the
newly upholstered couch in the living room.

DROOL: What to do when your persons have food and you don't. To do this properly you must
sit as close as you can and look sad and let the drool fall to the floor or, better yet,
on their laps.

SNIFF: A social custom to use when you greet other dogs until your person makes you stop.

GARBAGE CAN: A container which your neighbors put out once a week to test your ingenuity.
You must stand on your hind legs and try to push the lid off with your nose. If you do it
right you are rewarded with margarine wrappers to shred, beef bones to consume and moldy
crusts of bread.

BICYCLES: Two-wheeled exercise machines, invented for dogs to control body fat. To get
maximum aerobic benefit, you must hide behind a bush and dash out, bark loudly and run
alongside for a few yards; the person then swerves and falls into the bushes, and you
complete the exercise by prancing away.

DEAFNESS: A malady which affects a dog when its person wants it in and the dog wants to
stay out. Symptoms include staring blankly at the person, then running in the opposite
direction, or lying down.

THUNDER: A signal that the world is coming to an end. Humans remain amazingly calm during
thunderstorms, so it is necessary to warn them of the danger by trembling uncontrollably,
panting, peeing on the rug, rolling your eyes wildly and following at their heels.

WASTEBASKET: A dog toy filled with paper, envelopes, and old candy wrappers. When you get
bored, turn over the basket and strew the papers all over the house for your person to
play with by putting back in the wastebasket when they come home.

SOFAS: Are to dogs like napkins are to people. After eating it is polite to run up and down
the front of the sofa and wipe your whiskers clean.

BATH: A process by which the humans drench the floor, walls and themselves. You can help by
shaking vigorously and frequently.

LEAN: Every good dog's response to the command "sit!" -- especially if your person is
dressed for an evening out. Incredibly effective before black-tie events.

BUMP: The best way to get your human's attention when they are drinking a fresh cup of
coffee or tea.

GOOSE BUMP: A last-resort maneuver used when the Regular Bump doesn't get the attention
you require. Especially effective when combined with The Sniff (see above).

LOVE: A feeling of intense affection, given freely and without restriction. To show your
love, wag your tail and gaze adoringly. If you're lucky, a human will love you in return.

The Theory of Cat Behavior
LAW OF CAT INERTIA - A cat at rest will tend to remain at rest, unless acted upon by some
outside force, such as the opening of cat food.

LAW OF CAT MOTION - A cat will move in a straight line, unless there is a really good
reason to change direction.

FIRST LAW OF CAT ENERGY CONSERVATION - Cats know that energy can neither be created nor
destroyed and will, therefore, use as little energy as possible.

LAW OF BAG/BOX OCCUPANCY - All bags and boxes in a given room must contain a cat within
the earliest possible nanosecond.

LAW OF FURNITURE REPLACEMENT - A cat's desire to scratch furniture is directly proportional
to the cost of the furniture.

LAW OF CAT COMPOSITION - A cat is composed of Matter + Anti-matter + It Doesn't Matter.

LAW OF CAT OBEDIENCE - As yet undiscovered.

If I had it a little while ago, it's mine.

If it's mine, it must never appear to be yours in any way.

You can learn a lot from a dog
When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.

Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.

Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.

When it's in your best interest, practice obedience.

Let others know when they've invaded your territory.

Take naps and stretch before rising.

Run, romp, and play daily.

Thrive on attention and let people touch you.

Avoid biting, when a simple growl will do.

On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.

On hot days, drink lots of water and lay under a shady tree.

When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.

No matter how often you're scolded, don't buy into the guilt thing and pout ...
run right back and make friends.

Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.

Eat with gusto and enthusiasm. Stop when you have had enough.

Be loyal.

Never pretend to be something you're not.

If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.

When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently.

Feline Physics
Law of Cat Inertia - A cat at rest will tend to remain at rest, unless acted upon by some
outside force - such as the opening of cat food.

Law of Cat Magnetism - All clothes attract cat hair of opposite color in direct proportion
to the importance of the occasion for which you are dressing. If you do not own a cat with
the requisite hair color, this law will still, somehow, apply.

Law of Cat Thermodynamics - Heat flows from a warmer to a cooler body, except in the case
of a cat, in which case all heat flows to the cat.

Law of Cat Stretching - A cat will stretch to a distance proportional to the length of the
nap just taken.

A Cat in Heaven
One day, a cat dies of natural causes and goes to heaven, where he meets the Lord Himself.

The Lord says to the cat, "You lived a good life, and if there is any way I can make your

stay in heaven more comfortable, please let me know."

The cat thinks for a moment and says, "Lord, all my life I have lived with a poor family

and had to sleep on a hard wooden floor."

The Lord stops the cat and says, "Say no more," and a wonderful, fluffy pillow appears.

A few days later, six mice are killed in a tragic farming accident, and all of them go to

heaven. Again, the Lord is there to greet them with the same offer.

The mice answer, "All our lives we have been chased. We have had to run from cats, dogs,

and even women with brooms. Running, running, running; we're tired of running. Do you think

we could have roller skates so that we don't have to run anymore?"

The Lord says, "Say no more" and fits each mouse with beautiful new roller skates.

About a week later, the Lord stops by to see the cat and
finds him snoozing on the pillow.

The Lord gently wakes the cat and asks him, "How are things since you got here?"

The cat stretches and yawns, then replies, "It is wonderful here. Better than I could have

ever expected. And those 'Meals On Wheels' you've been sending by are the best!"

They Come in All Sizes
A guy walking his Doberman Pinscher says to a guy walking his Chihuahua,
"Let's go over to that restaurant and get something to eat."

The guy with the Chihuahua says, "We can't go in there. We've got dogs with us."

The guy with the Doberman Pinscher says, "Just follow my lead." They walk over to the
restaurant, and the guy with the Doberman Pinscher puts on a pair of dark glasses, and
starts to walk in.

A guy at the door says, "Sorry, sir, no pets allowed."

The guy with the Doberman Pinscher says, "You don't understand. This is my seeing-eye dog."

The host says, "In that case, come on in."

The other guy says to himself, "What the heck," puts on a pair of dark glasses,
and starts to walk in.

The host says, "Sorry, pal, no pets allowed."

"You don't understand. This is my seeing-eye dog."

The host says, "A Chihuahua?"

Thinking quickly, the guy responds, "You mean they gave me a Chihuahua?!"

The Cat Diary

DAY 752 - My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and the mild satisfaction I get from shredding the occasional piece of furniture. Tomorrow I may eat another houseplant and cough it up on the carpeting. DAY 761 - Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking almost succeeded, must try this at the top of the stairs. In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit on their favorite chair... must try this on their bed (again). DAY 762 - Slept all day so that I could annoy my captors with sleep depriving, incessant pleas for food at ungodly hours of the night. DAY 765 - Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless body, in attempt to make them aware of what I am capable of, and to try to strike fear into their hearts. They only coo-ed and con-descended about what a good little cat I was ... Hmmm. Not working according to plan . DAY 768 - I am finally aware of how sadistic they are. For no good reason I was chosen for the water torture. This time however it included a burning foamy chemical called "shampoo." What sick minds could invent such a liquid. My only consolation is the piece of thumb still stuck between my teeth and the tiny bit of flesh under my claws. DAY 771 - There was some sort of gathering of their accomplices. I was placed in solitary throughout the event. However, I could hear the noise and smell the foul odor of the glass tubes they call "beer." More importantly I overheard that my confinement was due to MY power of "allergies." Must learn what this is and how to use it to my advantage. DAY 774 - I am convinced the other captives are flunkies and maybe snitches. The dog is routinely released and seems more than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit. The Bird on the other hand has got to be an informant. He has mastered their frightful tongue (something akin to mole speak) and speaks with them regularly. I am certain he reports my every move. Due to his current placement in the metal room his safety is assured. But I can wait, it is only a matter of time....

Treating a Rottweiler
A man takes his Rottweiler to the vet and says, "My dog's cross-eyed, is there anything
you can do for him?"

"Well," says the vet, "let's have a look at him." So he picks the dog up and examines his
eyes, then checks his teeth. Finally, the vet says, "I'm going to have to put him down."

"What? Because he's cross-eyed?"

"No, because he's really heavy."

The girl did not stir, but continued milking. Observers, who had run to safety,
saw to their amazement that the bull stopped dead within a few yards of the girl,
turned round and walked sadly away.

"Weren't you afraid?" asked an observer.

"Certainly not," said the girl. "I happened to know this cow is his mother-in-law."

Getting Rid Of The Cat
The woman's husband didn't care much for her cat and decided to get rid of it by

driving the cat a couple miles away from their home and leaving it at a park.

When the man arrived home, he saw the cat walking up the driveway.

The next day he decided to take the cat 10 miles away. He pulled over, put the cat on the

ground and headed home. When he arrived home, there was the cat ambling up the driveway.

The man continued to take the cat farther and farther away, and the cat would always beat

him home.

Finally, he had had enough. He grabbed the cat, got in the car and drove and drove.

He turned tight, he turned left, he went over bridges, through tunnels, this way and that

until he thought, surely this was far enough and put the cat out.

Hours later, the man called his wife. "Sweetheart," he said, "is the cat there?"

"Why, yes," she answered. "Why do you ask?"

Frustrated the man said, "Please put the thing on the phone. I'm lost and need directions."

Animal Thoughts
Dog: "They keep putting the lid down on the big water bowl."

Goldfish: "Just because I have a three-second memory, they don't think I'll mind eating
the same fish flakes ... Oh boy! Fish flakes!"

Dog: "Man, why do they keep rubbing my nose in it? I already KNOW whose it is!"

Goldfish: "The knight never comes out of the castle to fight me for dominion over the fish
tank. So I must continue patrolling, for I am lord and master!"

Parrot: "Tease, tease, tease! But do those greedy clowns ever really give me a cracker?
HECK, no!"

Cat: "Why are these people in my house?"

Canine Mind Games
After your humans give you a bath, DON'T LET THEM TOWEL DRY YOU! Instead, run to their bed,
jump up and dry yourself off on the sheets.

When your humans come home, put your ears back, tail between your legs, chin down and act
as if you have done something really bad. Then, watch as the humans frantically search the
house for the damage.

Let the humans teach you a brand new trick. Learn it perfectly, but when they try to show
it to a friend, stare at them blankly.

When humans take you for a walk, sniff around the entire yard as your humans wait. Act as
if the spot you choose will ultimately decide the fate of the earth.

When out on a walk in a city, always pick the busiest most visible spot to go--especially
if your human has forgotten to bring a plastic bag.

When out for a walk, alternate between choking and coughing every time a strange human
walks by.

Make your own rules. Don't always bring back the stick when playing fetch with the humans.
Make them go and chase it once in a while.

When your humans come home, don't greet them at the door. Instead, hide until they think
something terrible has happened to you. Then jump out loudly at them.

When your human calls you to come back in, always take your time. Walking more and more
slowly the closer you get to the door.

Wake up twenty minutes before the alarm clock is set to go off and make the humans take
you out. As soon as you get back inside, fall asleep. (Humans can rarely fall back asleep
after going outside.)

The New Puppy
A father gave his little girl a puppy for her birthday. Just an hour later he found a
puddle in the middle of the kitchen floor.

He called out for his daughter, who came running into the kitchen, and asked her to
explain why she wasn't watching her new dog.

She looked up and said simply, "My pup runneth over."

Buy a Dog
If you want someone who will bring you the paper without first tearing it apart to remove
the sports section, buy a dog.

If you want someone willing to make a fool of himself simply over the joy of seeing you,
buy a dog.

If you want someone who will eat whatever you put in front of him and never says its not
quite as good as his mother made it, buy a dog.

If you want someone always willing to go out, at any hour, for as long and wherever you
want, buy a dog.

If you want someone to scare away burglars, without a lethal weapon which terrifies you and
endangers the lives of your family and all the neighbors, buy a dog.

If you want someone who will never touch the remote and will sit next to you no matter what
you watch, buy a dog.

If you want someone who is content to get up on your bed just to warm your feet and whom
you can push off if he snores, buy a dog.

If you want someone who never criticizes what you do, doesn't care if you are pretty or
ugly, fat or thin, young or old, who acts as if every word you say is especially worthy of
listening to, and loves you unconditionally, perpetually, buy a dog.

But on the other hand If you want someone who will never come when you call, ignores you
totally when you come home, leaves hair all over the place, walks all over you, runs
around all night, only comes home to eat and sleep, and acts as if your entire existence
is solely to ensure his happiness, Then my friend, . . . Buy a cat.

Dogs Letters to God
  Dear God,
How come people love to smell flowers, but seldom, if ever, smell one another? Where are
their priorities?

Dear God,
When we get to Heaven, can we sit on your couch? Or is it the same old story?

Dear God,
Excuse me, but why are there cars named after the jaguar, the cougar, the mustang, the colt,
the stingray, and the rabbit, but not one named for a dog? How often do you see a cougar
riding around? We dogs love a nice ride! I know every breed cannot have its own model, but
it would be easy to rename the Chrysler Eagle the Chrysler Beagle!

Dear God,
If a dog barks his head off in the forest and no human hears him, is he still a bad dog?

Dear God,
Is it true that in Heaven, dining room tables have on-ramps?

Dear God,
If we come back as humans, is that good, or bad?

Dear God,
More meatballs, less spaghetti, please.

Dear God,
When we get to the Pearly Gates, do we have to shake hands to get in?

Dear God,
We dogs can understand human verbal instructions, hand signals, whistles, horns, clickers,
beepers, scent IDs, electromagnetic energy fields, and Frisbee flight paths. What do humans
understand?

Dear God,
Are there dogs on other planets or are we alone? I have been howling at the moon and stars
for a long time, but all I ever hear back is the beagle across the street!

Dear God,
Are there mailmen in Heaven? If there are, will I have to apologize?

Dear God,
Is it true that dogs are not allowed in restaurants because we can't make up our minds what
NOT to order? Or is it the carpets thing, again?

Dear God,
May I have my testicles back?

the Dog Rules

  • Dogs are never permitted in the house.

  • The dog stays outside in the specially built wooden compartment named for a very good reason, the dog house.
    • Ok, the dog can enter the house but only for short visits or if his own house is under renovation.
    • Ok, the dog can stay in the house on a permanent basis provided his doghouse could be sold in a garage sale to a rookie dog owner.

  • Inside the house, the dog is not allowed to run free and is confined to a comfortable, but secure cage.
    • Ok, the cage becomes part of a "two for one" deal in the garage sale and the dog can go wherever the hell he pleases.

  • The dog is never allowed on the furniture.
    • Ok, the dog can get up on the old furniture, but not the new furniture.
    • Ok, the dog can get up on the new furniture until it looks like the old furniture and then we'll sell the whole works, and buy new furniture on which the dog will most definitely not be allowed.

  • The dog never sleeps on the bed. Period.
    • Ok, the dog can sleep at the foot of the bed only.
    • Ok, the dog can sleep along side you, but he is not allowed under the covers.
    • Ok, the dog can sleep under the covers, but not with his head on your pillow.
    • Ok, the dog can sleep along side you, under the covers with his head on your pillow, but if he snores, he's got to leave the room.
    • Ok, the dog can sleep and snore and fart and have nightmares in your bed, but he's not to come in and sleep on the couch in the TV room, where you're now sleeping. That's just not fair.

  • The dog never gets listed on the census questionnaires as "primary resident" even if it's true.

Remember, in any and all house-hold interactions or disputes

A Dog's New Year Resolutions
I will stop trying to find the few remaining clean pieces of carpet in the house when I
am about to throw up.

I will not roll on dead seagulls, fish, crabs, etc.

I will not eat other animals' poop.

I will not lick my human's face after eating animal poop.

I will not eat my own vomit.

I will not eat "kitty box crunchies".

I will not eat any more socks and then re-deposit them in the backyard after processing.

The diaper pail is not a cookie jar. I will not eat the disposable diapers, especially the
dirty ones.

I will not chew my human's toothbrush and not tell them.

I will not chew crayons or pens, specially not the red ones, or my people will think I am
hemorrhaging.

When in the car, I will not insist on having the window rolled down when it's raining
outside.

I will not drop soggy tennis balls in the underwear of someone who is sitting on the
toilet.

I will not bark each time I hear a door bell on TV.

I will not walk under the big dog when he is peeing.

I will not steal Mom's underwear and dance all over the back yard with it.

I will not play tug-o'-war with Dad's underwear when he's on the toilet.

The sofa is not a face towel. Neither are Mom & Dad's laps.

My head does not belong in the refrigerator.

I will not bite the officer's hand when he reaches in for Mom's driver's license and car
registration.

I do not need to suddenly stand straight up when I'm lying under the coffee table.

I will not roll my toys behind the fridge.

The garbage collector is NOT stealing our stuff.

I must shake the rainwater out of my fur BEFORE entering the house.

A Cat's New Year Resolutions

My human will never let me eat her pet hamster, and I am at peace with that.

I will not puff my entire body to twice its size for no reason after my human has finished
watching a horror movie.

I will not slurp fish food from the surface of the aquarium.

I must not help myself to Q-tips, and I must certainly not proceed to stuff them down the
sink's drain.

I will not eat large numbers of assorted bugs, then come home and puke them up so the
humans can see that I'm getting plenty of roughage.

I will not lean way over to drink out of the tub, fall in, and then pelt right for the box
of clumping cat litter. (It took FOREVER to get the stuff out of my fur.)

I will not stand on the bathroom counter, stare down the hall, and growl at NOTHING after
my human has finished watching The X-Files.

I will not use the bathtub to store live mice for late-night snacks.

I will not perch on my human's chest in the middle of the night and stare into her eyes
until she wakes up.

We will not play Herd of Thundering Wildebeests Stampeding Across the Plains of the
Serengeti over any humans' bed while they're trying to sleep.

Screaming at the can of food will not make it open itself.

I cannot leap through closed windows to catch birds outside. If I forget this and bonk my
head on the window and fall behind the couch in my attempt, I will not get up and do the
same thing again.

I will not assume the patio door is open when I race outside to chase leaves.

I will not intrude on my human's candle-lit bubble bath and singe my bottom.

I will not stick my paw into any container to see if there is something in it. If I do, I
will not hiss and scratch when my human has to shave me to get the rubber cement out of my
fur.

If I bite the cactus, it will bite back.

When it rains, it will be raining on all sides of the house. It is not necessary to check
every door.

Birds do not come from the bird feeder. I will not knock it down and try to open it up to
get the birds out.

The dog can see me coming when I stalk her. She can see me and will move out of the way
when I pounce, letting me smash into floors and walls. That does not mean I should take it
as a personal insult when my humans sit there and laugh.

I will not play "dead cat on the stairs" while people are trying to bring in groceries or
laundry, or else one of these days, it will really come true.

When the humans play darts, I will not leap into the air and attempt to catch them.

I will not swat my human's head repeatedly when she's on the family room floor trying to
do sit ups.

When my human is typing at the computer, her forearms are *not* a hammock.

Computer and TV screens do not exist to backlight my lovely tail.

I am a walking static generator. My human doesn't need my help installing a new board in
her computer.

How to Wash the Cat
Thoroughly clean the toilet. Add the required amount of shampoo to the toilet water, a
nd have both lids lifted. Obtain the cat and soothe him while you carry him towards the
bathroom.

In one smooth movement, put the cat in the toilet and close both lids (you may need to
stand on the lid so that he cannot escape).

CAUTION!!!!!

Do not get any part of your body too close to the edge, as his paws will be reaching out
for any purchase they can find.

Flush the toilet three or four times.

Have someone open the door to the outside and ensure that there are no people between the
toilet and the outside door.

Stand behind the toilet as far as you can, and quickly lift both lids. The now-clean cat
will rocket out of the toilet, and run outside where he will dry himself.

Sincerely,

The DOG

DECORATING WITH DOGS
Decorating when you have pets can provide unique opportunities to express your own
personal style and taste. Here are some tips I'd like to share:

1. Bare floors, without carpet or throw rugs, can give a nice open feeling to a room.
It can provide a soothing balance when you have many art objects that reflect your love
of animals.

2. Paw prints and nose smudges on glass doors and windows break up glare and soften the
light in a room.

3. Dog crates, when stacked three high, can add height to a room and pull the eye up.
If fastened securely to the wall, the top can provide a safe and dramatic place for
exotic plants or statuary that otherwise might be molested by your pets. An up light
can make it a real focal point. Cats love to inhabit the upper crates, leaving the lower
ones for the dogs.

4. Old towels and blankets thrown casually on upholstered furniture can add a wonderful
homey, country-quilt look to an otherwise bland room.

5. Common smooth upholstery fabrics can look almost velvety when lightly textured with
pet hair.

6. Vari-kennels, placed end to end and topped with plate glass can create an unusual
coffee table, one your friends will really remember.

7. Doggie beds, randomly placed around a room, can add color and texture, much as throw
pillows do.

8. Shredded or chewed books and magazines send a message to guests that they are free to
relax and feel at home.

9. Dog crates can make versatile end tables, and can be slip covered to match any room
decor.

10. There is absolutely nothing that makes a guest feel as welcome as three friendly dogs
hopping in his lap as soon as he sits down.

So throw away those videos by Martha and others, and express your own unique tastes.
Your home should reflect what YOU like!

Holiday Etiquette for Dogs

1. Be especially patient with your humans during this time. They may appear to be more stressed-out than usual and they will appreciate long comforting dog leans.

2. They may come home with large bags of things they call gifts. Do not assume that all the gifts are yours.

3. Be tolerant if your humans put decorations on you. They seem to get some special kind of pleasure out of seeing how you look with fake antlers.

4. They may bring a large tree into the house and set it up in a prominent place and cover it with lights and decorations. Bizarre as this may seem to you, it is an important ritual for your humans, so there are some things you need to know:

- - don't pee on the tree
- - don't drink water in the container that holds the tree
- - mind your tail when you are near the tree
- - if there are packages under the tree, even ones that smell interesting or that have your name on them, don't rip them open
- - don't chew on the cord that runs from the funny-looking hole in the wall to the tree

5. Your humans may occasionally invite lots of strangers to come visit during this season. These parties can be lots of fun, but they also call for some discretion on your part:

- - not all strangers appreciate kisses and leans
- - don't eat off the buffet table
- - beg for goodies subtly
- - be pleasant, even if unknowing strangers sit on your sofa
- - don't drink out of glasses that are left within your reach.

6. Likewise, your humans may take you visiting. Here your manners will also be important:

- -observe all the rules in #4 for trees that may be in other people's houses.
- - respect the territory of other animals that may live in the house
- - tolerate children
- - turn on your charm big time.

7. A big man with a white beard and a very loud laugh may emerge from your fireplace in the middle of the night. DON'T BITE HIM!!

3. A chew toy shaped like a shoe which he is immediately going to confuse with the right sneaker of your favorite pair.

4. Central A/C for his Dogloo when you're still using individual wall units that are barely up to cooling a small close-size area in your house.

5. Anything Garfield.

6. A remote control for the refrigerator door.

7. A knitted pink sweater that makes your macho doberman look like a poodle.

8. A deluxe pre-packaged treat-filled Christmas stocking that's large enough for you to use as a sleeping bag.

9. Doggie antlers when your near-sighted hunting relatives will be spending the holidays with you.

A Dog's Daily Routine

The day is divided into two important sections: the all-important mealtime, and everything else.

I. Mealtime

  1. Just because there does not seem to be anything visible around to eat certainly does not mean there is nothing around to eat. The act of staring at the underside of a table or chair on which someone else is eating sets in motion a chain of events that eventually results in food.

  2. It goes without saying that you should carefully check the lower third of any space for edibles. Mouth-sized things which cannot be identified by sight or smell are considered gum.

  3. When you actually receive a meal, submerge your head into it as you would a shower. Never, never look up again until a minimum of at least fifteen minutes after the obvious food is gone. This is important. Just because your dish is empty does not mean that it is time to stop eating.

  4. Remember that all food is potentially yours up until the time that it is actually swallowed by another. The lengthy path a piece of food will take from a plate to a mouth via a hand is as good a time as any to stake your claim to it.

  5. When it comes to selecting an appropriate beverage, location and packaging mean nothing. There are absolutely no exceptions to this rule.

  6. If you really see something you want, and all your other attempts at getting it have failed, it is only right to grovel shamelessly. As a second tactic, stare intently at the object of your desire, allowing long gelatinous drools to leak like icicles from your lower lip.

II. Everything Else

  1. There are really only two important facial expressions to bother with: complete and overwhelming joy and nothing at all.

  2. Any time that is not meal time is potentially nap time. The best time to take a nap is when you hear your name being called repeatedly. The best location for a nap is dead center of any street or driveway. The most relaxing position is on your side, all four limbs parallel.

  3. The most practical way to get dry is to shake violently near a fully clothed person. A second effective method is to stand on a light-colored piece of furniture.

  4. Personal Safety

    • At the first hint of any irregular noise, run from room to room barking loudly. If someone actually comes into the house, rush over to them whether you know them or not. Then kiss them so violently that they lose their balance or have to force you away physically.

    • The greatest unacknowledged threat to life as we have come to know it is squirrels. No matter what you must do, make sure there are none in your yard.

  5. Recreation and Leisure

    • Ball: There are two equally amusing sets of rules you will want to know.

      1. The Common Form, in which you receive a thrown ball and return it.

      2. The Preferred Form, in which you receive a thrown ball and eat it.

    • Car: As you know, any open car door is an invitation to get in. Once inside, your only goal is to try to get out.

  6. Health: In the event of a trip to the doctor, always be on your guard. If you are vaccinated, urinate on the physician.

Cat Bathing As A Martial Art

Some people say cats never have to be bathed. They say cats lick themselves clean. They say cats have a special enzyme of some sort in their saliva that works like new, improved Wisk - dislodging the dirt where it hides and whisking it away.

I've spent most of my life believing this folklore. Like most blind believers, I've been able to discount all the facts to the contrary - the kitty odors that lurk in the corners of the garage and dirt smudges that cling to the throw rug by the fireplace.

The time comes, however, when a person must face reality; when he must look squarely in the face of massive public sentiment to the contrary and announce: "This cat smells like a port-a-potty on a hot day in Juarez."

When that day arrives at your house, as it has in mine, I have some advice you might consider as you place your feline friend under you arm and head for the bathtub:

Know that although the cat has the advantages of quickness and utter disregard for human life, you have the advantage of strength. Capitalize on that advantage by selecting the battlefield. Don't try to bathe him in an open area where he can force you to chase him. Pick a very small bathroom. If your bathroom is more than four feet square, I recommend that you get in the tub with the cat and close the sliding-glass doors as if you were about to take a shower (a simple shower curtain will not do. A berserk cat can shred a three-ply rubber shower curtain quicker than a politician can shift positions).

Know that a cat has claws and will not hesitate to remove all the skin from your body. Your advantage here is that you are smart and know how to dress to protect yourself. I recommend canvas overalls tucked into high-top construction boots, a pair of steel-mesh gloves, an army helmet, a hockey face mask and a long-sleeve flak jacket.

Prepare everything in advance. There is no time to go out for a towel when you have a cat digging a hole in your flak jacket. Draw the water. Make sure the bottle of kitty shampoo is inside the glass enclosure. Make sure the towel can be reached, even if you are lying on your back in the water.

Use the element of surprise. Pick up your cat nonchalantly, as if to simply carry him to his supper dish (cats will not usually notice your strange attire. They have little or no interest in fashion as a rule. If he does notice your garb, calmly explain that you are taking part in a product- testing experiment for J.C. Penney).

Once you are inside the bathroom, speed is essential to your survival. In a single liquid motion, shut the bathroom door, step into the tub enclosure, slide the glass door shut, dip the cat in the water and squirt him with shampoo. You have begun one of the wildest 45 seconds of your life. Cats have no handles.

Add the fact that he now has soapy fur, and the problem is radically compounded. Do not expect to hold on to him for more that two or three seconds at a time. When you have him, however, you must remember to give him another squirt of shampoo and rub like crazy. He'll then spring free and fall back into the water, thereby rinsing himself off (the national record is - for cats - three latherings, so don't expect too much).

Next, the cat must be dried. Novice cat bathers always assume this part will be the most difficult, for humans generally are worn out at this point and the cat is just getting really determined. In fact, the drying is simple compared to what you have just been through. That's because by now the cat is semi-permanently affixed to your right leg. You simply pop the drain plug with your foot, reach for your towel and wait (occasionally, however, the cat will end up clinging to the top of your army helmet. If this happens, the best thing you can do is to shake him loose and to encourage him toward your leg). After all the water is drained from the tub, it is a simple matter to just reach down and dry the cat.

Do NOT try to use a blow dryer. You might as well use a vacuum cleaner.

In a few days the cat will relax enough to be removed from your leg. He will usually have nothing to say for about three weeks and will spend a lot of time sitting with his back to you. He might even become psycho-ceramic and develop the fixed stare of a plaster figurine.

You will be tempted to assume he is angry. This isn't usually the case. As a rule he is simply plotting ways to get through your defenses and injure you for life the next time you decide to give him a bath. But, at least now he smells a lot better.

The Story of Creation as Told by a Dog
On the first day of creation, God created the dog.

On the second day, God created man to serve the dog.

On the third day, God created all the animals of the earth (especially the horse)
to serve as potential food for the dog.

On the fourth day, God created honest toil so that man could labour for the good of the
dog.

On the fifth day, God created the tennis ball so that the dog might or might not retrieve
it.

On the sixth day, God created veterinary science to keep the dog healthy and the man
broke.

On the seventh day, God tried to rest, but He had to walk the dog.

The Cat Miracle Diet
Most diets fail because we are still thinking and eating like people. For those of us who
have never had any success dieting, there is the new Miracle Cat Diet! This diet will
also work on humans!

Except for cats that eat like people - such as getting lots of table scraps - most cats
are long and lean (or tiny and petite). The Cat Miracle Diet will help you achieve the same lean, svelte figure. Just follow this diet for one week and you'll find that you not only look and feel better, but you will have a whole new outlook on what constitutes food. Good Luck!

DAY ONE

Breakfast: Open can of expensive gourmet cat food. Any flavor as long as it costs more
than .75 per can - and place 1/4 cup on your plate. Eat 1 bite of food; look around room
disdainfully. Knock the rest on the floor. Stare at the wall for awhile before stalking
off into the other room.

Lunch: Four blades of grass and one lizard tail. Throw it back up on the cleanest carpet
in your house.

Dinner: Catch a moth and play with it until it is almost dead. Eat one wing. Leave the
rest to die.

Bedtime snack: Steal one green bean from your spouse's or partner's plate. Bat it around
the floor until it goes under the refrigerator. Steal one small piece of chicken and eat half of it. Leave the other half on the sofa. Throw out the remaining gourmet cat food from the can you opened this morning.

DAY TWO

Breakfast: Picking up the remaining chicken bite from the sofa. Knock it onto the carpet
and bat it under the television set. Chew on the corner of the newspaper as your
spouse/partner tries to read it.

Lunch: Break into the fresh French bread that you bought as your part of the dinner party
on Saturday. Lick the top of it all over. Take one bite out of the middle of the loaf.

Afternoon snack: Catch a large beetle and bring it into the house. Play toss and catch
with it until it is mushy and half dead. Allow it to escape under the bed.

Dinner: Open a fresh can of dark-colored gourmet cat food - tuna or beef works well.
Eat it voraciously. Walk from your kitchen to the edge of the living room rug. Promptly
throw up on the rug. Step into it as you leave. Track footprints across the entire room.

DAY THREE

Breakfast:Drink part of the milk from your spouse's or partner's cereal bowl when no one
is looking. Splatter part of it on the closest polished aluminum appliance you can find.

Lunch: Catch a small bird and bring it into the house. Play with it on top of your down
filled comforter. Make sure the bird is seriously injured but not dead before you abandon
it for someone else to have to deal with.

Dinner: Beg and cry until you are given some ice cream or milk in a bowl of your own.
Take three licks/laps and then turn the bowl over on the floor.

FINAL DAY

Breakfast: Eat 6 bugs, any type, being sure to leave a collection of legs, wings,
antennae on the bathroom floor. Drink lots of water. Throw the bugs and all of the water
up on your spouse's or partner's pillow.

Lunch: Remove the chicken skin from last night's chicken-to-go leftovers your spouse or
partner placed in the trash can. Drag the skin across the floor several times. Chew it in
a corner and then abandon.

Dinner: Open another can of expensive gourmet cat food. Select a flavor that is
especially runny, like Chicken and Giblets in Gravy. Lick off all the gravy and leave the
actual meat to dry and get hard.

Basic Rules For Cats Who Have The Run of The House

Doors

Do not allow closed doors in any room. To get a door opened, stand on hind legs and hammer it with forepaws.

Once door is opened, it is not necessary to use it. After you have ordered an "outside" door opened, stand halfway in and out and think about several things. This is particularly important during very cold weather, rain, snow, or mosquito season. Swinging doors are to be avoided at all costs.

Guests

Quickly determine which guest hates cats the most. Sit on that lap. For sitting on laps or rubbing against trouser legs, select fabric which contrasts well with your fur. For example: white-furred cats go to black wool clothing. Note: Velvet takes precedence over all other cloth. For the guest who exclaims, "I love kitties!" be ready with aloof disdain, apply claws to stockings or arms, or use a quick nip on the ankle. Always accompany guests to the bathroom. It is not necessary to do anything - just sit there and stare.

Hampering

If one of your humans is engaged in some close activity and the other is idle, stay with the busy one. This is called "helping" otherwise known is "hampering." Some rules:

  1. When supervising cooking, sit just behind the left heel of the cook. You cannot be seen and thereby stand a better chance of being stepped on and then picked up and comforted.

  2. For book readers, get in close under the chin, between eyes and book, unless you can lie across the book itself.

  3. For knitting projects or paperwork, lie on the work in the most appropriate manner to obscure the maximum amount. Pretend to dose but every so often reach out and slap the pencil or knitting needles. Sit on the paperwork they are working on. Roll around on the papers, scattering them to the best of your ability. After being removed for the second time, push pens pencils, and erasers off the table, one at a time. Embroidery and needlepoint make great hammocks.

  4. When a human is holding the newspaper in front of him/her be sure to jump at the back of the paper. They love surprises.

  5. Dart out quickly and as close as possible in front of the human, especially: on stairs; when they have something in their arms; in the dark; and when they first get up in the morning. This will help their coordination skills.

  6. When a human is attempting to "make the bed," hop on it and curl up in the middle, or pounce on the sheet the human is trying to rearrange. If the human tries to ignore you by covering you with the sheets, move around and try to mess things up. Protest loudly when you're evicted.

  7. Laundry presents many opportunities to hamper. Laundry fresh from the dryer is a perfect bed, since it is warm and soft. As soon as it is put down for sorting, arrange yourself for a nap. If the human removes you, keep returning until the laundry isn't warm anymore. Now it's playtime. Pounce on anything the human tries to move around for folding, especially socks and nylons. For added fun, grab a sock and hide under the bed with it.

Play

This is an important part of your life. Get enough sleep in the daytime so you are fresh for your nocturnal games. Below are listed below are several cat games. It is important though to maintain one's Dignity at all times. If you should have an accident during play, such as falling off a chair, immediately wash a part of your body as if to say "I MEANT to do that!" It fools those humans every time.

Games

  1. "Catch Mouse": The humans would have you believe that those lumps under the covers are their feet and hands. They are actually Bed Mice, rumored to be the most delicious of all the mice in the world, though no cat has ever been able to catch one. Maybe YOU can be the first.

  2. "King of the Hill": This game must be played with at least one other cat. Sleeping humans are the hill which must be defended at all costs from the other cat(s). Anything goes. This game allows for the development of unusual tactics as one must consider the unstable playing field.
WARNING: Playing games 1 and 2 to excess will result in expulsion from the bed. Should the humans grow restless, immediately begin purring and cuddle up to them. This should buy you some time until they fall asleep again. If one happens to be on a human when this occurs, this cat wins the round of "King of the Hill."

  3. "Tag": This game requires two or more cats and may include a dog. One cat is "it." The other(s) chase him around the house until they catch up. Then follows the "Scrimmage," after which the cat who caught the other becomes "it" and is chased around. Great fun but has the greatest potential for loss of Dignity from maneuvers such as the Non-Carpeted Floor Skid and the Throw Rug Wipeout. Whenever such a situation occurs, all felines must immediately wash themselves. Dogs are generally too stupid to do this and may continue to play. In this case, the dog automatically becomes "it" and should be subjected to the "Pileup."

  4. "Tube Mouse": This is a game played in the bathroom. Next to the Big White Drinking Bowl is a roll of soft white paper which is artfully attached to the wall so that it can spin. Inside this roll is the Tube Mouse. When you grab the paper, the Tube Mouse will spin frantically as it tries to escape from you. When the Mouse is exposed, it dies of fright and stops spinning.

Toys

Any small item. If a human tries to confiscate it, this means it is a Valuable Toy. Run with it under the bed. Look outraged when the human takes it away. Watch where it is put so you can steal it later. Two reliable sources of toys are dresser tops and wastebaskets. Below are listed several types of cat toys.

  • Bright shiny things like keys, brooches or coins should be hidden so the other cat(s) and humans can't play with them. They are generally good for playing hockey with on uncarpeted floors.

  • Dangling and/or string-like things such as shoelaces, cords, gold chains and dental floss also make excellent toys. They are favorites of humans who like to drag them across the floor for us to pounce on. When a string is dragged under a newspaper or throw rug, it magically becomes the Paper/Rug Mouse and should be killed at, all costs. Note that playing with shoelaces when the human is trying to tie them is a great source of Hampering.

  • Within paper bags dwell the Bag Mice. They are small and the same color as the bag, so they are hard to see, but you can easily hear the crinkling noises they make as they scurry around the bag. Anything, including shredding the bag, can be done to kill them. Note: any cat you find in a bag hunting for Bag Mice is fair game for a Sneak Attack, which will usually result in a great Tag match.

Food

Eating, however, is only half the fun. The other half is getting the food. Cats have two ways to obtain food: convincing a human you are starving to death and must be fed "NOW"; and hunting for it oneself. The following are guidelines for getting fed.

  • When the humans are eating, make sure you leave the tip of your tail in their dishes when they are not looking.

  • The best times to inform humans of your dish's emptiness are when they are unable to ignore you, such as when they are sleeping or on the toilet.

  • Should you catch something of your own outside, it is only polite to attempt to get to know it. Be insistent - your food will usually not be so polite and try to leave.

Scratching Posts

It is advised that cats use anything which is most useful to you. They are very protective of what they think is their property and will object strongly if they catch you sharpening your claws on it. Sharpening your claws on a human is a definite no-no!

Water

Dripping taps are the best sources of fresh water. Toilets are the next best. It is imperative that any sound of running water be investigated immediately for a possible drink. A plaintive meow and licking the faucet usually will get most humans to turn on the tap.

Vacuum Cleaner

This appalling Beast is known by many names, "Cat Eater" being the most prevalent. Humans will turn into raging monsters while under its influence, sucking up all the carefully shed cat hair and terrorizing the feline residents with evil glee. All you can do is run and hide.

Occasionally, the humans are forced to open the vacuum cleaner and remove a swollen bag from within. This is its stomach, and must be destroyed at all costs. Do not worry if the human yells at you, for the yell is really that of the Beast in pain.

Sleeping Humans

It is known that sleeping humans are boring. The "direct approach" is nearly always successful in rejuvenating a dormant human. Do one of the following:

Trample, purr, meow or head-butt. If the human is being stubborn, you may have to resort to more drastic tactics, such as ripping down posters, rattling blinds, or singing at the top of your voice. Eventually the human will get up and do what you want, usually in a disgruntled manner.

Mornings

In order to provide for you, the humans must leave the domain every morning (usually before you take your first cat nap). To help them on their way, howl loudly, massage their scalps with your claws, or gently bounce on top of them in bed. See Games. The best time to do this is about 24 minutes before their alarm clock goes off. We must protect them from that blaring noise for it could ruin their hearing.

Medicine

The vet is where your human takes you when you are sick. The place smells funny; there are cats, dogs and awful things like needles and pills. Don't let humans cat-handle you. The following are some tips for dealing with vets and medicine.

  • When you see the carrier come out, run and hide. Once the human grabs you, struggle gamely. Splay your legs out so it is difficult to cram you into the carrier. If the human is trying to put you in with another pet, allow the other pet to bolt out the door. In the car, meow plaintively all the way to the vet's. Reach through the bars of the carrier and claw the human as s/he drives. At the vet's, once again splay your legs and brace yourself against the carrier's walls so they can't dump you out easily.

  • At home, resist attempts to feed you pills or liquid medicine. As soon as you hear the pill bottle rattle, hide. Resist attempts to open your mouth. Squirming is good. Shake your head vigorously to remove any medicine placed in your mouth. Refuse any food that smells like it may have had medicine sprinkled in it.

Illness

If you have to throw up, get to a chair quickly. If you cannot manage in time, get to an Oriental rug. If there is no Oriental rug, shag is good. When throwing up on the carpet, make sure you back up so it is longer then a human's bare foot.

Conclusion

Humans need to know basic rules. They can be taught if you start early and are consistent. You will then have a smoothly running household.

Cat Haiku
You never feed me.
Perhaps I'll sleep on your face.
That will sure show you.

You must scratch me there!
Yes, above my tail!
Behold, elevator butt.

I need a new toy.
Tail of black dog keeps good time.
Pounce! Good dog! Good dog!

The rule for today
Touch my tail, I shred your hand.
New rule tomorrow.

In deep sleep hear sound
cat vomit hairball somewhere
will find in morning.

Grace personified.
I leap into the window.
I meant to do that.

Blur of motion, then --
silence, me, a paper bag.
What is so funny?

The mighty hunter
Returns with gifts of plump birds --
your foot just squashed one.

You're always typing.
Well, let's see you ignore my
sitting on your hands.

My small cardboard box.
You cannot see me if I
can just hide my head.

Terrible battle.
I fought for hours. Come and see!
What's a 'term paper'?

Kitty likes plastic
Confuses for litter box
Don't leave tarp around

Small brave carnivores
Kill pine cones and mosquitoes
Fear vacuum cleaner

I want to be close
to you. Can I fit my head
inside your armpit?

Wanna go outside.
Oh, shit! Help! I got outside!
Let me back inside!

Oh no! Big One
has been trapped by newspaper!
Cat to the rescue!

Humans are so strange.
Mine lies still in bed, then screams
My claws are not that sharp.

Cats meow out of angst
"Thumbs! If only we had thumbs!
We could break so much!"

Litter box not here
You must have moved it again
I'll crap in the sink

The Big Ones snore now
Every room is dark and cold
Time for "Cup Hockey"

We're almost equals
I purr to show I love you
Want to smell my butt?

A Cat's Top-Ten Thoughts
  1. I could have sworn I heard a can opener.

  2. Is there something I'm not getting when humans make noise with their mouths?

  3. Why doesn't the government do something about dogs?

  4. I wonder if Morris really liked 9-lives, or did he have ulterior motives?

  5. Hmmmm ... If dogs serve humans, and humans serve cats, why can't we ever get those stupid dogs to do anything for us?

  6. This looks like a good spot for a nap.

  7. Hey - no kidding, I'm sure that's the can opener.

  8. Would humans have built a vast and complex civilisation of their own if we cats hadn't given them a reason to invent sofas and can openers in the first place?

  9. If there's a God, how can He allow neutering?

  10. If that really was the can opener, I'll play finicky just to let them know who's boss!

How many dogs does it take to change a light bulb?

1. Golden Retriever: The sun is shining, the day is young, we've got our whole lives ahead of us, and you're inside worrying about a stupid burned out bulb?

2. Border Collie: Just one. And then I'll replace any wiring that's not up to code.

3. Dachshund: You know I can't reach that stupid lamp!

4. Rottweiler: Make me.

5. Boxer: Who cares? I can still play with my squeaky toys in the dark.

6. Lab: Oh, me, me!!!!! Pleeeeeeeeeze let me change the light bulb! Can I? Can I? Huh? Huh? Huh? Can I? Pleeeeeeeeeze, please, please, please!

7. German Shepherd: I'll change it as soon as I've led these people from the dark, check to make sure I haven't missed any, and make just one more perimeter patrol to see that no one has tried to take advantage of the situation.

8. Jack Russell Terrier: I'll just pop it in while I'm bouncing off the walls and furniture.

9. Old English Sheep Dog: Light bulb? I'm sorry, but I don't see a light bulb!

10. Cocker Spaniel: Why change it? I can still pee on the carpet in the dark.

11. Chihuahua: Yo quiero Taco Bulb. Or "We don't need no stinking light bulb."

12. Greyhound: It isn't moving. Who cares?

13. Australian Shepherd: First, I'll put all the light bulbs in a little circle...

14. Poodle: I'll just blow in the Border Collie's ear and he'll do it. By the time he finishes rewiring the house, my nails will be dry.

How many cats does it take to change a light bulb?
The Cat's Answer:
Cats do not change light bulbs. People change light bulbs. So, the real question is:
"How long will it be before I can expect some light, some dinner, and a massage?"

ALL OF WHICH PROVES, ONCE AGAIN, THAT WHILE DOGS HAVE MASTERS, CATS HAVE STAFF!
