Spam is a most annoying thing, to say the least.
Typically spammers harvest E-mail addresses from newsgroups, although new software has enabled them to harvest them in a new, more efficient, and more targeted way.

They'll simply enter in targeting words in a search engine, and gather E-mail addresses though those webpages & the links on them.

The script I got from SiteGadgets foils these robots by randomly generating a lot of different, fake E-mail addresses - which they then add to their database. This page can be an extremely effective anti-spamming policy page.
