JUST FOR YOU, MOM

My mom was born in 1917 to hard working parents.

        These are my grandparents.
They were always a loving couple and were married almost 75 years. They knew how to make a marriage last forever.

This was a different time then we know now. It was even a different time from when I was born.

My mom was 15 years old when she quit school and went to work in a woolen mill. She has been in that spot ever since. The mill has changed hands and names but my mom is still there. She will be 82 on her next birthday and she is still working full time. This is not easy work.... I consider this hard labor and she knows every job there. I could never do this type of work. Not even in my younger days.

She grew up in a loving household with her brothers & sisters. There were enough of them so that no one ever got lonely. Her dad (my grandpa) worked in a paper mill. He worked hard and was proud of the job that he did. Times were not always easy for them but they made the best of it. My grandparents were always there so no matter how hard times got the family stood together. They were not wealthy by any means but there was always love in the house and to me that made them the richest people on earth.

She married my dad in 1940. My dad also worked in the paper mill. He worked there for 35 years before he retired. My brother was born 3 years after they were married and 2 years later I came along. I was born in a blizzard in the month of May. My mom always told me I was a pain in the...you know what...even back then.... hehehe

I remember when we were growing up there was always relatives around us. Mom worked the night shift for years when we were growing up. But saturday was always special. We always got together with my aunts and grandmother and went shopping. It was a family outting. We would start out in the ice cream shop and go from store to store after that. What a treat that was. It was a good time for us. We are still a very close family.

There are now four generations in our family. The newest member being my granddaughter.

This is a picture of my mom, my grandmom and myself. This was taken about two years after Kelly, my oldest daughter, was born.

My grandparents are now gone and so is my dad. My mom is still with us and I thank God everyday for that. She is the one constant in our lives. She helps us to realize what we have and that what we have is the best of everything.

I know I don't say this enough, Mom, but I love you very much and I couldn't imagine what life would have been like without you.
