~THE 1998 MYRTLE BEACH BASH~

Listen my friends and you shall hear,
Of a call that went out the first of the year.
Come one and come all into the breach,
Who all wants to meet, how about Myrtle Beach?
There were hundreds that answered the call on that day,
Some hemmed and some hawed and some fell by the way.
Then finally! Oh finally! The list was complete,
We sent in our money for a nice place to meet.
The day finally came, the tension was great,
The migration had started the Gray rush was on,
The Panthers had landed the deed was all done.
They came from near and they came from afar,
The first place they headed was straight for the bar.
North met the South, the East met the West,
The mixture, the camaraderie, turned into a fest.
The huggin the kissin the greetin's that took place,
Oh! I know you, the name, not the face.
These complete strangers, were strangers no more,
I met them on line, hey! there's one I adore.
Here's one I met when I first ventured in,
This one I met, oh! where have you been?
The last time I saw you was six months ago,
I missed you so much, ouch! that was my toe.
It's so good to se you and don't mean to sound tripe.
But I need a bath, I am becoming quite ripe
I'll go to my room and there I will crash,
we'll all meet here later, then on with the bash.

(Later)

We went out to eat and to get the lay of the land,
My word can you believe it, it is called the Grand Strand.
It shimmers and twinkles like diamonds in light,
It seems you ride forever just to get a quick bite.
The shows and the programs, the play parks we see
will take days just to visit, and I only have three.
The Luncheon is what I really came for,
Oh come on tomorrow where ever you are.

(Luncheon)

The day finally came and we all did attend,
The luncheon, the luncheon come on let's go in.
We walked in the door and what did we see?
We were the last ones, hey! they are looking at me.
The faces seem endless, the room is so full,
Of our friends on line, God how I feel the pull.
Of the love we all share when we talk in the room,
AARP Chat has welcomed me home.
The arms they enclose me the kiss on my cheek,
Cause tears of sheer wonder that we finally meet.
The food is piled high on the table in great mounds,
Oh Lord, just once please forget about pounds.
We ate and we ate my tummy did swell,
My prayer went unanswered, this then is my hell.
Then all of a sudden our table did shake,
The damn thing levitated make sure no mistake.
A leg had collapsed the food it started to slide,
one side to the other and that table was wide.
First we held it up as high as our heads
Dang it was heavy and we began to dread
the stains and the slopping of mess on our threads.
Then one waiter went under and then one became two
To see what had happened and what they could do.
The LLat said let me try it for now, I"m a lot bigger than you.
The leg that he tended was metal for sure,
Come off it LLat that is my right femur.
When finally the table repaired it is true,
We continued to eat with vigor anew.
When all of a sudden a squeal I did hear,
I then saw a person come out of the rear,
of a room that was hidden from view
She clomped and she shuffled making her way through
the crowd it had parted for her did give way
she walked up to Bomy and this she did say
Come on your past is here you do see
So pucker up Baby and plant one on me
And Poor Bomy his mouth did go slack
Which gave her the chance to collect o her smack.
Who is this stranger to arrive here just now?
My word it is his long lost Diana, and she looks like a cow.
Oh poor Chan her shoulders are shaking from crying I see,
No, her shoulders are quaking with laughter and glee.
She just might choke, do take a breath or two
And pointed at Diana, my nemesis was you!
And Bomy poor Bomy had turned as if to stone,
And seemed to be praying "Oh Lord take me home."
Then all of a sudden a crowing we hear,
Bomy turns about as if in great fear
Oh hell what is next, will this be my doom?
A great yellow Chicken burst into the room.
He came to Chan's rescue and chased Diana away
Out the back door and down to the quay.
Then Chan hugged the chicken and then shed a tear.
Thank you my friend my sweet Dear Chanticleer.
Then Chan looked over at Bomy and saw
The Poor guy was shell shocked, could tell by his jaw.
His eyes they were vacant, poor guy couldn't move
So Chan went right over and poured out her love
Now darlin it's all over, it's time to return
To the party we started, now maybe you've learned
That the past now is over and give it a rest
And leave sweet Diana where she looked her best.

So the party contined the tables were all cleared
and out of the blue a hip D.J.appeared
To spin all the records we loved in our day
the dance floor was opened, all joined in the fray
the music brought back memories I had forgot
and tapping my toes I looked at the sight
Of folks in their 50's and 60's and more
All join in with friends all out on the floor
The waltz and the shag were mostly the main
But came Hokie Pokie and I threw down my cane
and out on the floor I danced with the girls
In a circle we danced, each stanza we'd whirl
I was back in my teen years just for awhile
and when it was over there were hugs and more smiles

By the door were packages piled high up in banks
the members had brought presents to Chan to say thanks
For all the hard work she and Bomy had done
To make this year's Bash the best and bar none
You see we had heard from a little Wausau Bird
That Chan just loved Chickens and we got out the word
Bring a gift for Chan, a chick if you please
So Chan here they are along with a squeeze
There is a Chick, Chick here and Chick, Chick there
My Lord there were Chickens everywhere
And even sweet Bomy got a duckie or two
Thanks Bomy and Chan we love both of you.

Now I wonder I wonder, Oh where and Oh where
Where we'll meet again, hope sometime next year.
this is a mystery we need to think through.
I'm gonna be there I wonder will you?

And now it is time to all say good-bye
I don't want to leave I swear I will cry
I have made friends to last all through my life
May God give you more time free of all strife
And remember each time when you think back
That each friend you made you can still contact
By just turning on the computer Machine
AARP Chat, just click and you're in
(OK so it doesn't rhyme, what did you expect for my first time at this?)
