The greatest pleasure of life is love!

We all want to fall in love.  Why?  Because that experience makes us feel completely alive.  Where every sense is heightened, every emotion is magnified, our everyday reality is shattered and we are flying into the heavens.  It may only last a moment, an hour, an afternoon.  But that doesn't diminish its value.  Because we are left with memories that we treasure for the rest of our lives.

Relationships of all kinds are like sand held in your hand. Held loosely, with an open hand, the sand remains where it is.  The minute you close your hand and squeeze tightly to hold on, the sand trickles through your fingers.  You may hold on to some of it, but most will be spilled.  A relationship is like that.  Held loosely, with respect and freedom for the other person, it is likely to remain intact.  But hold too tightly, too possessively, and the relationship slips away and is lost.

Love puts a twinkle in the eye,
A smile on the lips,
And a rainbow in the heart.

Each of us has a hidden place,
Somewhere deep within ourselves;
A place where we go to get away,
To think things through, to be alone, to be ourselves.
This unique place, where we confront our deepest feelings,
Becomes a storehouse of all our hopes,
All our needs, all our dreams, and even our unspoken fears.
It encompasses the essence of who we are
And what we want to be.
But now and then, whether by chance or design,
Someone discovers a way into that place
We thought was ours alone.
And we allow that person to see, to feel and to share
All the reason, all the uncertainty and all the emotion
We've stored up there.
That person adds new perspective to our hidden realm,
Then quietly settles down in his own corner
Of our special place,
Where a bit of himself will stay forever,
And we call that person a friend.

Whoever has loved knows all that life contains
of sorrow and of joy.

The skylark has stopped singing from the roof of
the Tin Pan Alley Record Shop on Broadway
If he ever was a skylark,
I was never sure.

And I don't reach out for your hand anymore.
Sometimes I stumble without it
but at least I've kicked the habit of clutching air.

How long has it been
since your arms were a rock of peace
to rest my head against?
Three years already?

You passed by within inches of me this afternoon
while I was having a Hermit in the Muffinburger.
What did we used to say, as kids?
So near, "If he was a snake he would have bitten you."

Caught off guard,
we looked at each other the way familiar strangers do,
pulling the shades down quickly
over the transparent windows of our eyes
but not quite quickly enough
to hide the cluttered, broken dreams inside...
like old furniture left behind
when love moves out suddenly.

Your cool, casual nod
was almost a warning not to speak.
So I didn't.
It's just as well,
what could I have said?
"How are you?"

Somewhere there's someone who dreams of your smile,
And finds in your presence that life is worthwhile.
So when you are lonely, remember it's true;
Somebody, somewhere is thinking of you.

Across Time and Space

Across the miles I sit and imagine and dream.
I take my hand and in gentle caress stroke your tender cheek.
I stare into your eyes, letting you see into my very being,
bringing you into the desire of my heart.
I close my eyes as I imagine our lips touching in tight embrace.
In the deep purple of my dreams,
my heart stops framing that moment of time.
"Can those lips taste as sweet as my imagination
brings to mind?"
I hold you close as only lovers do
and feel the heat rise between us.
This journey begins and the universe melts away,
no longer is there a you or an I, just we together.
I feel the mists of our energies rise and mingle,
thoughts, bodies, souls, becoming one.
I feel your chest against mine
and I want to just hold you there in my embrace,
so that I never have to experience a moment
any less perfect than this.
Nothing matters but here and now.
Can your touch inflame my soul?
That is the mystery that both space and time between
taunts me with.

Oneness

Henceforth, there will be such a oneness between us
That when one weeps, the other will taste salt.

Champagne Lady

Striking at first sight, something altogether new,
From the very first, I saw this in you.

A mystery in motion, alluring to my mind,
The sight of you before me leaves my reason all behind.

How can I tell her what I want to say?
How can I force out the words without delay?

You struck me with your beauty, your words that were so kind,
My thoughts are in a frenzy in my rattled mind.

A woman like you enters my world so very rare,
How can I say the things I really wish I'd dare.

But at least I said hello and that is where it must begin
Until I get the chance to see you once again.

After we have mastered the winds, the waves,
the tides and gravity,
we shall learn to harness the energies of Love.
Then, for the second time in the history of the world,
man shall have discovered Fire.
