'I need to investigate this further'
Good! If nothing else, this website seems to have convinced you that there's at least a chance of Jesus' claims being true. It is good that you are not prepared to jump to conclusions, but want to look honestly and carefully at the facts. Just remember that when you have sorted through the issues in your mind, you might just find you have to make an important personal decision. Jesus' claims are not simply a fascinating field for speculation, a matter of opinion. If you really come to the conclusion that he was speaking the truth, you can't just say, 'Hmmm! Interesting', and walk away. You will have to do something about it.
It's like discovering you have won the football pools. You don't just file the information away in the back of your mind, thinking, 'I must remember to tell the wife. She'll be quite interested to know about it.' No - something so big and revolutionary alters your whole life at the moment it gets to you.
Having said that, where do you look next? You'll find some helpful books around at Christian bookstores. If you've had enough of reading abstract ideas, get to know some Christians - real Christians, who believe the message of the Bible and are honestly submitted to Jesus' authority - and watch them for a while. See if they ring true. See if there isn't something extra about their lives which can't be explained away as just good nature, or an easy-going personality.
I'm in two minds whether to advise you to go to church. The reason is that sometimes (especially when a lively church is holding a guest service directed at outsiders) a church service can be a tremendous way of finding out about Christianity in depth; but sometimes church services can seem remote, alien and even boring to outsiders. Result: they sometimes conclude, 'Christianity is just not me.' And that would be a tragic way to walk away from the one thing that can fulfil your ife absolutely.
Then there's the Bible. I became a Christian when I looked at the Bible and realized that all the things Christians had told me weren't just their own private ideas - they were really there, in the Bible itself. Since the Bible is (it claims) God's own communication to us, it is the most important book you can go to in order to sort the whole business out. It has a power and conviction all of its own. Don't ever believe it's a totally inscrutable book, which you have no hope of making sense of - a book of riddles and dark sayings which you can only puzzle over. You will understand most of what you read if you follow two simple rules.
(1) Read it in an understandable, modern version - there are lots of good ones to choose from, such as the Good News Bible and the New International Version.
(2) Start with something that's easy to grasp and get into - such as the Gospel of Mark, or the Gospel of Luke. Leave Leviticus and Revelation for later!
But there's one last question I'd like to ask you. If you are honestly undecided about Christianity - fine, investigate further. But are you sure you are hesitating for the right reasons?
'Being ready' is an odd idea. 'Are you ready for the first night?' someone asks the drama producer. 'Will you be ready for the opening ceremony?' the mayor says to the borough architect. 'Are you ready for the exam?' one student asks another. And nearly always the honest answer is something like: 'Well, I could do with another fortnight...'
It is sometimes the case with Christian commitment. It is perilously easy to say to oneself, 'Well, I could do with another fortnight...' ...It is possible that the difficulties you continue to feel are really excuses.
How do you decide whether you have the right reasons for hesistating or not? We should ask ourselves, 'If I got a satisfactory answer to that particular problem, would I then commit my life to Christ? Or would I continue an elaborate game of "Yes, but..." in order to keep him at bay?'
Answer the question for yourself. If you are sure that you're not just making excuses nd holding off a real moment of decision - carry on as suggesteded above. But if you feel that that the consistent, honest thing to do would be to give Jesus Christ a chance with your life, with no further delay - read here
Either way, we pray that you will get there in the end. For nothing else is more worthwhile. And be encouraged; you have his solemn promise - 'If you seek me with all your heart, you will find me!'
