CHAPTER ONE
ONE MOONLIT NIGHT
Terry's car pulled up on the grass at the end of the quiet country road. It was a quiet moonlit night and in the distance was a river with a backdrop of trees and hills. Dianne was glad to be with Terry - she had liked him for months. Several weeks before, when he had asked her to the party, she thought all her dreams had come true. He was good looking and seemed sensible. Even her mum seemed to like him. She was also glad to be away from the party. It was hot, smokey, loud and almost everybody was either drunk or stoned. Now she felt a little more secure. Terry seemed to care. He said he did. Now she was in his arms, kissed and kissing, touched and caressed. Nothing else seemed to matter at the time and she surrendered to him.
As she lay quietly in the darkness thinking, trying to ignore the gnawing empty feeling, the quiet sadness returned. With it came knowledge that she had given part of herself away. Then the questions. Was it worth it? Does he love me? Will it last?
Cara lay gazing at the ceiling of the bedroom, beside her lay Ricky, her husband, her lover, her man. Their room was quiet now. The lovers chatter, the laughter and the joy of their lovemaking had faded and she gently stroked his forehead as he dozed beside her. Outside she was resting, inside she was dancing. She felt more loved, secure and complete than she ever remembered. Nothing else seemed to matter.
In the silent darkness she remembered how hard it was to wait. Sometimes she had wanted him more than anything else in the world but they had set their standards. How hard it was for Rick the rubbishing he got from his workmates and how hard it was when they were together, alone. She was so proud of him it made her trust him. She knew he respected her she felt secure.
Then came the wedding night, what a circus they didn't exactly get it all together to start with but they were learning learning to communicate learning to give themselves to the other and learning to love.
Now three years later, their love had been tried but was still true growing deeper somehow deeper and different.
